airlines arent like other businesses. Some of the guys are pretending like a $3 billion loss is a killer for Air India.
not true. The safety record matters. The fuel prices hits every airliner equally. Beyond that, passengers are happy to go with no-frill budget airlines provided the customer service is reasonable.
Wow. I watched that. Unbelievable.Welcome to India![]()
I spent enough time air side to know everything is chocked and locked when not in use. They forgot to engage the breaks on the equipment, because they never did because that is just how they do things there. Or the breaks were broken and no one ever bothered to fix them.
Even if the breaks were broken, no one ever bothered to use chocks on the parked equipment because no one really cared.
May they get more and more of this!
Aameen!
tbh "safety first" doesn't exist in some parts of the worldI spent enough time air side to know everything is chocked and locked when not in use.
Yes but in the videos none of the equipment looked like it was locked down or chocked. The airports have standard procedures in place in case of a stormy forecast.I spent enough time air side to know everything is chocked and locked when not in use.
hedging is tricky. it does not make sense unless you have a good record of guessing petroleum pricesHere is a good article regarding hedging in the airline industry:

The airlines that do and do not hedge fuel
Why fuel hedging has become a controversial topic in commercial aviationweekly.visualapproach.io
hedging gives you a short term gain. Once the hedge wears out, you are on the same level playing field as othersnot true.
air india has not hedged fuel, as i understand it, and has not done so in history? i may be wrong, but seems like AI did not go into this with hedged fuel.
OTOH, look at ryanair, locking in a year's supply at $67/barrel.
airlines arent like other businesses.
in what world is shrinking routes, bleeding cash and competitors expanding their footprint sound like no big deal? emergency injections dont sound like no big deal... i can carry on going.
again, airlines dont operate on huge margins.
