AMCA News and Discussion

Yes, of couse that "will" happen because we know how good the Indian aerospace industrial complex is at meeting "time lines" and "delivery dates".

LOL.
Fair enough but new projects won't always go the way they are planned. It is not license production where an existing product is to be locally assembled like we did with Su-30 MKI. Fighter jets, especially 5th gen fighters aren't an easy thing to make.

The article mentions the contract deadlines.

Indian space industry is decent if not exceptional. Aero is unfixable as long as HAL is involved. Private corporations like Bharat Forge are quite decent. Better engineers, better work culture, more money,....One can fail many times but has to succeed only once. We are getting close.

With Pvt Companies it's either succeed or parish..
With Govt sector paycheck is secured even after failures.
Also Govt sector has a near fix payscale which won't attract best talents..
Pvt companies can hire best available resources.

Also, ADA will be handholding, HAL employees can be poached, HAL will remain tier-1 supplier. So those who were supposed to be and have been making components and LRUs will now be doing final assembly and integration.

And the consortium is being selected based on existing capabilities, not just participation and costs involved. Only issue is with delays, not inability to make them.

HAL may have "experienced" engineers but they were never that good and HAL has acute shortage of engineers at the moment. Why don't private players poach from the world? Find Indians in other parts of world, working in aerospace and pay them top notch salary? That's what I would do.

So HAL is out !! Now I have some hope with this project ! 🥁
Isn't HAL the only organisation with experience in aircraft designing and manufacturing in India? Would that be the advantage India would be losing. On the other hand, I do agree HAL generally makes projects look hopeless.

Poach some of their experienced engineers. People are experience.

They might bring with them the same problems; i.e, organisational routines, bureaucratic mindset, parochial interests, etc. But that's just an outsider's view.

Not necessarily. Their bosses will can their arse in an instant. Just hire select few. Pay them well and threaten their arse. They will show result or go home.

HAL doesnt do much designing. That is the ADA (a DRDO lab).

HAL is a govt owned capital + production. A pretty crappy model to have in this day and age as basically there is little accountability since its monopoly/monopsony chokepoint, tax payer coercion both ways (upstream and downstream)....worst of both worlds combining.
