Apple unveils its first foldable phone the IPhone Duo

Apple may have missed its market analysis on how popular this model was going to be and stocked ahead accordingly.

It happens. Ask how I know as a Motorola veteran.

Interesting...it's like the first product in the world we actually catch a price break on...

hmm...tariffs anyone?
Long ago, before Trump tariffs, apple translated product prices from USA dollars to EU euros with the rate change $1 USD = 1 EUR.

Keeping in mind euros is more expensive than dollars since long time ago, it always was more expensive apple products in Europe than in USA.

iPhone Duo sells out immediately, now backordered until next year

iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, went up for pre-order today. Within minutes of pre-orders opening, however, estimated delivery dates started slipping all the way to next year.

The first iPhone Duo pre-orders are set to arrive on October 23, but only for the lucky people who placed their order in time.

As of 8:30 a.m. ET, all iPhone Duo configurations are backordered until next year. All color and storage combinations show an estimated ship date of January 25. Some users are even seeing January 29 for their estimated shipping date.

This is a combination of strong demand and severely constrained supply for iPhone Duo. It’s impossible to know the exact balance between the two, though.

Going into the launch, there were multiple reports suggesting iPhone Duo would be in short supply as Apple was still ramping up production. A report from Nikkei Asia last month said Apple was making just a few hundrediPhone Duo units per day, significantly behind the ramp of a normal iPhone launch.

A quick glance on eBay reveals that there are already dozens of iPhone Duos available for pre-order from scalpers, asking as much as $5,200.

Well as I said they are late to a game that doesn't seem to have taken off...maybe they were wary about building too many and then being called out in the press for releasing a $2000 duo "dud" with warehouses full of inventory nobody wants.

Suddenly they hit an unexpected Duo jackpot and are caught with not much inventory.

Christmas only 2 months away and they are likely groaning.

I wish I had some of the disposable income some of you'd have. 💢

Even if I did, I probably wouldn't spend that much on a phone. Would be nice though..

Motorola did the same thing. Twice.

Missed the market on digital phones. Thought no one would ever want one. Then missed the market, at Christmas time no less, with camera phones. Head of procurement dicked around with ordering the cameras. Samsung, LG, and Nokia were all ready.

It was ugly for awhile in Schaumburg.
