BAF Plane Crashes into School in Uttara

Bangladesh population density is very high. Not easy for pilot / trainer to find uninhabited part for controlled crash. Let's see what's the status report.

A Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed on to a school campus in northern Dhaka on Monday, killing at least one person and injuring others, according to the military.

The aircraft crashed on to the campus of Milestone School and College, in Dhaka’s Uttara neighbourhood, where students were taking tests or attending regular classes.

Television footage showed fire and smoke billowing from the site of the crash.

Jamuna TV reported that at least 13 people, including students, were injured.

Bengali-language Prothom Alo daily said most of the injured were students with burn injuries, with at least 20 people taken to a hospital.

Parents and relatives attended the scene as rescuers, using rickshaws or whatever was available, transported the injured.

Rafiqa Taha, a student at the school who was not present at the time of the crash, told The Associated Press by phone that Milestone School and College, with some 2,000 students, runs classes from elementary to 12th grade.

On Monday, she said, some students were taking tests while others attended regular classes.

“I was terrified watching videos on TV,” said the 16-year-old student. “My God. It’s my school.”

The Bangladesh Army’s public relations office confirmed in a brief statement that the downed F-7 BGI aircraft belonged to the Air Force.

Fire official Lima Khanam stated by phone that at least one person died and four others were injured, though she did not provide further details.

Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crashes in college campus
More than 50 hospitalised with burns
Bangladesh government promises investigation

DHAKA, July 21 (Reuters) - At least 19 people were killed as a Bangladesh air force training aircraft crashed into a college and school campus in the capital city of Dhaka on Monday, a fire services official said.
More than 50 people, including children and adults, were hospitalised with burns, a doctor at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery told reporters.

The incident occurred at the Milestone School and College in Dhaka's northern area of Uttara, officials said.
"Bangladesh Air Force's F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed in Uttara. The aircraft took off at 13:06 (0706 GMT)," the military's public relations department said in a statement.
Videos of the aftermath of the crash showed a big fire near a lawn emitting a thick plume of smoke into the sky, as crowds watched from a distance.
Firefighters sprayed water on the mangled remains of the plane, which appeared to have rammed into the side of a building, damaging iron grills and creating a gaping hole in the structure, Reuters TV visuals showed.
"A third-grade student was brought in dead, and three others, aged 12, 14 and 40, were admitted to the hospital," said Bidhan Sarker, head of the burn unit at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where some victims were taken.
Visuals also showed people screaming and crying as others tried to comfort them.
"When I was picking (up) my kids and went to the gate, I realised something came from behind...I heard an explosion. When I looked back, I only saw fire and smoke," said Masud Tarik, a teacher at the school.
Muhammad Yunus, head of Bangladesh's interim government, said "necessary measures" would be taken to investigate the cause of the accident and "ensure all kinds of assistance".
"The loss suffered by the Air Force...students, parents, teachers and staff, and others in this accident is irreparable," he said.
The incident comes a little over a month after an Air India plane crashed on top of a medical college hostel in neighbouring India's Ahmedabad city, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and 19 on the ground, marking the world's worst aviation disaster in a decade.

Pilot confirmed dead.
Indications are this was a single seat F-7BGI and that the pilot likely chose not to eject and made a failed attempt at crash landing on the open field within the school premises but ended up plowing into a building.

Tragic incident.

Kurmitola Air force base is near such densely populated areas, there is no way pilot can avoid crash landing on buildings.

Just look how these Indians are trying to twist this incident and how much details they are going into . Making it sound as if the pilot deliberately crashed into the college building.

O Allah! Forgive our living and our deceased, our present and our absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah! Whoever You keep alive among us, keep them alive upon Islam, and whoever You cause to die among us, cause them to die upon faith. O Allah! Do not deprive us of their reward, and do not let us go astray after them.

My condolences to the bangladeshi brothers and sisters.
