Bangladesh Army

It's strange that BA didn't purchase their VT-5s with RWS considering they are basically standard for newer tanks.
BD needs to protect jobs.
If they start reducing crew then who will serve as runners for officers during peace time?

PMA Commissioned Officers of Bangladesh Army.

During the earlier days of Bangladesh as an independant country, most of the Officers were commissioned from PMA Kakul, or OTS Kohat. They continued to served well into Bangladesh' history until eventually they were succeded by officers from BMA.

In this photograph are three well known figures of Bangladesh Army's early days.

From L-R
General Mustafizur Rahman, commissioned from 6th PMA War Course, he was the Chief of Staff at the time, Col Saklain from 31st PMA and my grandfather (dadaji) Maj A M M Iqbal Ali from 17th PMA Special Course.

This photograph was taken on occasion of my parents' wedding in Dacca, Aug 2000. It was during this time the last of the Pakistan-era officers were finally retiring, with Lt Gen Hasan Mashdud Chowdhury being the last Chief of Staff commissioned in Pakistan.

Further mentioning that Gen Mustafizur Rahman is the father-in-law of the current Chief of the Bangladesh Army General Wakeruzzaman.
 
Chiefs of the Bangladesh Army who were commissioned in Pakistan and the British Indian Army
Col Osmany was commissioned in the British Indian Army on October 1940, initially with the 2nd Btn, Duke of Wellington Regiment.
Maj Gen KM Safiullah was commissioned from 12 PMA Long in the 16th Punjab Regiment.
Lt Gen Ziaur Rahman was also from 12 PMA Long.
Lt Gen HM Ershad was from OTS, Kohat in 1952.
Lt Gen Atiqur Rehman was from 9th PMA Long Course.
Lt Gen Nooruddin Khan was from 20th PMA Long course.
Lt Gen Nasim was from some war or special course .
Lt Gen Mahboob ur Rahman was commissioned in the Corps of Engrs from 17 PMA special course along with my Dadaji.
General Mustafizur Rahman was also from a war course commissioned in 1966.
Lt Gen Harun Ar Rashid was from 24th PMA war course commissioned in 1970.
Lt Gen Hasan Masdud Chowdhury was commisioned in 1969 in FF

Former CAS Bangladesh Army, Lt Gen Harun Ar Rashid . He was commissioned in the Pakistan Army on September of 1970 along with the 24th War Course PMA.
He served as Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Army from December 2000 till June 2002.

Bangladesh Army has established Army Hills and Jungle Warfare School at Alikadam Cantonment.
The training facility has been established to strengthen the Army’s operational capability for missions not only in remote hilly and forested areas but also plain areas.

Secretary General UN António Guterres has appointed Lt. Gen. Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam as Commander UNFICYP (Cyprus).
An officer of the East Bengal Regiment, he previously commanded 10th INF DIV and served as Comdt DSCSC.
Upon his recent promotion, he was appointed as GOC Army Training and Doctrine Command.

Lt. Gen. Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, awc, psc
He is a Piffer who was commissioned in 1969. After 1971, he repatriated to Bangladesh and had an amazing career ahead. In Bangladesh, his first posting was 17th East Bengal. His key appointments include –
Comd 44 Bde, Comdt SI&T, Comd 203 Bde, DG SSF, Comdt DSCSC, GOC 11 Div, CGS, Comdt NDC, Ambassador to UAE and Chief of Army Staff.
He commanded a Bn in Gulf War and served in UNIKOM.

He launched the canal excavation program in 1977 with the objective of promoting rural development and revitalizing agriculture in Bangladesh.
From Deyal (Wall) book of Humayun Ahmed, a prominent writer of Bengali literature –
The shortage of clothing in Bangladesh eased somewhat. Prices of essential commodities did not spiral out of control.
Large quantities of Hilsa began to be caught in the rivers of Bangladesh. After a long time, people in the country began to feel that they had found a head of state who was honest. There was no thought in his mind of looting money for himself or for his relatives. Instead, he was concerned about the country. He wanted to transform the nation by digging canals.
There is not doubt that Zia was an honest man, not merely honest for show, but genuinely so. After his death, it was found that the Zia family had no accumulated wealth.
