Bangladesh Keen To Join Saudi-Pak-Turkey Defence Alliance, Says PM's Top Aide

I don’t want to be labelled a “critic” of this pact, because that’s not where I’m coming from. I’m not sitting here hoping it fails. We’re in it now, and of course I hope it succeeds. My issue has always been the timing and the context. This alliance suddenly materialised right after Saudi was attacked and embarrassed by Iran ..and before that moment, they never showed any real interest in a deep strategic structure with us. That’s what frustrates me.

Some Pakistani members think I’m being negative about the Mecca Pact, but that’s not true. I’m pointing out concerns that come from our own history. Turks don’t fully trust Arab states because we’ve repeatedly seen them support our rivals in the West. That’s a lived experience for us. Pakistan hasn’t gone through that dynamic, so naturally you won’t feel the same hesitation we do. It’s not about being anti‑pact; it’s about acknowledging why some of us are cautious.

Anyway, I’ve already explained the reasons I’m uneasy about certain parts of this pact, so I don’t need to repeat them. I’m watching and hoping for the best ... just not pretending the past doesn’t exist.

Thank you for this statement, and it does make a lot of sense. But as with most things in life, we're limited by our own exposure.

There exist very deep concerns amongst Pakistanis, including myself, but concerns are there to be mindful about, not shout from the rooftops every time something crosses your mind. There's such a thing as considered criticism, which includes not saying the quiet part out loud.

Perhaps Pakistan is there precisely because of the lack of trust between the Arab and the Ottoman worlds, sort of like a glue.

You have to understand few things about Pakistan and Pakistanis. We're obsessed with self criticism. I class it as pure self loathing, but let's go with self criticism. To outsiders Pakistani nation can come across as disunited. But Nothing could be further from the truth.

The core mindset of Pakistani state and society regarding international affairs are as follows.

1. Pan Islamic ideology, not in the sense of an Ummah, but collective existence would be a more precise description.
2. The second is in Urdu, but the nearest translation is We will not bow to anyone except Allah. It basically means if you want it, come and get it.

Another thing, there are two countries that live in the imagination of Pakistani society, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. Saudi for obvious reasons, but Turkiye is hard to explain, the bond is just there, it's like we're born with it.
There's also China which holds a place of love and respect but it's for different reasons, we have been there for each other.
I see people have space for Bangladesh in their hearts, but there's too much fog which desperately needs to be lifted.

I think, over time the Turkish state has realised that the EU carrot will forever be hanging. They will buy you the most expensive la-Z-boy chair in the world, open the doors so you can enjoy the view, but you will never be invited in. It's just not going to happen. No matter how secular you are, they will not accept 90 million Muslims inside the corridors of Europe.

"Former US President Bill Clinton disclosed that several European allies blocked efforts to lift the arms embargo on Bosnia because they saw an independent, Muslim-majority country as "unnatural" and preferred that the Bosnian Muslims die or be defeated."

https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2015/12/14/remembering-dayton-the-accord-that-ended-bosnian-war

It was the joint efforts by Turkiye, Pakistan and Iran which played an import role in giving them capabilities to fight back. That's Pan Islamic in practice.

Similarly Bangladesh hasn't got a chance in hell of joining ASEAN, they might be willing to provide some benefits. That's it, but no entry. Another Muslim majority country with a total population of approaching 200 million with 160 plus million Muslims will completely disturb the balance in ASEAN. They will not allow that to happen. The sooner Bangladeshis realise the better.

I think Turkish state has seen the light, you can judge your society for yourself, although i think they're still waking up. Similarly Bangladeshi society is still sleep but the state has started to wake up, but they have to deal with historical baggage.

This coming from a life long atheist, since my teens, but you can't ignore the obvious. In the spirit of openness, i love this country of Britain, it has my complete loyalty, it's home. I see no reasons why my two identities would clash regarding any such organisation, I believe if it succeeds it will bring stability.

This pact, however it plays out is just a beginning. European Union started as a coal and steel community.
It's a start, give it time. There will be hiccups, it might even fail. But the foundation has been laid. The foundations for the United Nations were laid by the League of Nations, which failed but the lessons learnt from that were applied to the United Nations.

This might fail, it doesn't mean it will not offer lessons for the future. If it succeeds, all the better.

That's the nature of the game among Muslim civilisation. Muslims globally were not reduced to shit status because they behaved with honour and intelligence. This isn't an insult, this is simply recognising the reality of the situation. There are real reasons why the white man pretty much walked all over the Muslim world and still to this day does the most damage against Muslims.

So if it takes the Saudis fearing their arses on the line because of a few Iranian missiles, if that's what it takes to bring them in line and move in a way that is positive for the region, then we got to take it.

The Libyans were the same, warlord hafter supported by the UAE, France, Russia, Iran and Assad had wanger forces directly in their capital. Turkiye offered her services for a long time but they kept thinking they could get something better with america and europe. It never came and they were on the verge of complete defeat, when no one was around to save them except the Turks, they called us in. Turks saved the government, and now they are in a better position and Turkiye is in a better position. In general Muslims are in a better position.

Now we could have said F'k em, we could have took the approach that we offered to help many times and you turned us down looking for a white master instead. Only when you were rejected and facing certain defeat did you come looking for us. However we took the wise approach, it was still in our interests to save them.

As much Arabs have relentlessly betrayed each other let alone the Turks, if we turn our back to them completely it just allows our enemies to have an easier hand in manipulating them against us and against themselves. We got to get active and nothing is going to be perfect.

Pakistan should not support Bangladesh’s admission to the Mecca Pact until Dhaka:

1. Formally withdraws and renounces the false genocide allegation against Pakistan.

2. Takes concrete, verifiable steps demonstrating that it is outside India’s orbit of influence.

These are fundamental issues that should be resolved before Bangladesh is considered for admission.

First get to life before thinking about death - BD's Deputy FM Humayun Kabir*

Being apologetic, appeasing and conciliatory policy toward Ram Rajya of Hindutva Bharat = death by a thousand blows

No nuclear umbrella over BD = no minimal sovereignty for BD = permanent slave under Bharat

The BD Muslims have understood the geo-strategic Hakikat, so thy're now applying their geo-strategic Hikmet...

*He's from Sylhet, my home district which joined Pakistan through plebiscite ignoring the call (read Fitne and Fesat) from the Jamat-i-Ulamay-i-Hind (the bastards of the Hindu Congress; Taliban are their new illegitimate kids; they all share the same DNA for a reason).

BD's getting into the Misak-i Mekka automatically implements your propositions, not by words but by deeds....

You're creating two Pakistans and one Hindustan - Bardali Chaterjee, a Congress leader of Assam upon Jinnah's acceptance of the Cabinet Mission Plan in 1946

*Proposed a federal union controlling only foreign affairs, defense, and communications, with provinces grouped into three sections [Groups A (present day Pakistan), B (present day Bharat), and C (present day WB+BD+Asam: Muslim majority)] alongside a bottom tier of individual provinces.

Apologize for the killings/ generational mistreatment and discrimination of Biharis in East Pakistan who stood up all alone for Pakistan's cause.

How long do you propose Pakistan waits for this?

Is there actually any real world consequence of position 1 being maintained by them? It seems like a ceremonial matter to me.

Position number 2 - I agree with, but that will take time and should not become a rate limiting matter.

During President Zia-ur Rahman's tenure, while describing 1971 events, it was mentioned as occupying forces in textbooks, media and official statements! Pakistan Army was never called by name....

It is. Hopefully it becomes sensible with future BD leaders (even for the sake of consistency and truth, if not to warm up to Pakistan) to leave it behind.

Bro, BD didn't exist India and its puppet Hassina's grip just to get into someone else's orbit. Friendly or otherwise. Pakistan would like us to be rabid anti-India as it obviously fits its strategic interest to keep India occupied on another front. But obviously that's not what's gonna happen. Because we want each bilateral relationship to be of our own choosing according to our interest and our assessment. It Can't be determined by someone else.

Typically, nation states engage in rapprochement FIRST, and only then do past discrepancies and injustices become corrected.

Pakistan would like us to be rabid anti-India as it fits or its strategic interest to keep India occupied somewhere else.
I doubt this is actually the case. Bangladeshis may think it is, but such a position is futile by its very nature.

What Pakistanis DO want is for South Asian nation states to accept that India is not as all-controlling as it appears to be. Pakistan also wants other nations to refuse to be manipulated against Pakistan. It is important to note Modi's own statements about "isolating Pakistan", a PEACETIME mission of his no less!

If Bangladesh simply becomes "pro-Bangladesh", that will be of benefit to Pakistan by default.
