Bangladesh plans $2.2b purchase of 20 Chinese J-10 fighter jets

Bangladesh was talking about acquiring a new fighter jet platform when I was a young man, who started on the defence forums and now, many DECADES later, they still talk and sing of the same song with no progress. Fear not, nothing will come of it now, or until the day I retire from work!

You are not alone on that boat 😂

Bangladesh eyes J-10CE fighter jet deal as Dhaka resets foreign policy

Bangladesh is expected to advance plans to acquire 24 Chinese J-10CE multi-role fighter jets during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to China beginning Monday, as Dhaka and Beijing prepare to deepen cooperation across defense, infrastructure, trade and investment.

"We hope to sign the fighter jet purchase agreement by August this year," a senior government official told Daily Waadaa on condition of anonymity.

A Chinese delegation visited Dhaka last week to accelerate negotiations, while Bangladeshi officials are expected to hold separate meetings with China's foreign and defense ministers during the visit to finalise key details of the proposed acquisition.

Alright folks, looks like BAF is ditching Eurofighter despite signing LOI in December last year and being at advance stage of negotiation.

I guess that given potential fund size, they concluded 24x J10CE (2x sqd) is better than 12x Eurofighter. Although I am pretty sure the anonymous official got the J10CE flyway cost wrong, however, overall this piece of news is likely accurate as this new outlet run by fairly credible folks.

Having mixed feeling about this acquisition. Obviously we are putting lots of our eggs in Chinese bucket now. It's great visa vie India. But don't know how will it turn out in a contingency with Myanmar. Which still is as of now our primary national security threat with Rohingya crisis.

Finally some common sense. Myanmar will be balanced out by US specially now that Myanmar doesnt even control their coast with bd. We need to play our cards right and do something about rakhine with the US.

Any country aspiring to acquire J10 spec or above should have to go through Pakistani JF17s first to build up experience and be able to prove there is no leakage of sensitive information.

In the wrong hands it could destroy the reputation of chengdu just like India has done with dassault.

That's china's business not anyone else's. If China is willing to sell despite potential leaks then its not even something they consider advanced or essential for their future

I was in class 10 when they started thinking and talking. In two months I'll get married lmfao still no jets

there is a zero chance of j-10 or jf-17 order with US-China trade war in the backdrop

Bengalis are smart. They can leverage their relations with big powers to stay out of a direct conflict. India, China, USA & to a lesser extent Pakistan, can all counter balance each other & Bangladesh can carry on as it does.

Bangladesh is a small country with a big population. It has no ambitions within the region & beyond. Its rightfully concerned about economics more than anything else.

Embarking on armament is going to create more threats for Bangladesh than bring security. A squadron of J10s or Typhoons is only going to invite a couple or more squadrons from India & Myanmar on its borders. Bangladesh can not afford to be seen as a threat to India & does not want to antagonise India.

If BD really went for J-10's then it means PAF has shared some good insight with them, creating a similar Multi-domain operation capability with active kill chain which PAF uses to shoot down multiple IAF fighter jets, BD has time, money, resources, once they start building their armed forces and things get momentum it wont be long before they build small but very effective Ground/Air and naval force, I really hope that BD leaders are looking at the geopolitics of the world and how powerful countries are attacking weaker ones for their resources, and no one gives a rats A$$ about UN anymore, so every one should armed themselves with whatever it takes to defend national interest, and recent conflicts and wars shows us that Air force is very important along with a sizeable drone fleet.
