Bangladesh plans $2.2b purchase of 20 Chinese J-10 fighter jets

A large part of the decision can be credited to Pakistan air force. Thank god at last.

Pakistan air force members have already arrived in bd to discuss training and operations

Agree.

In addition to this - I think the F7 crash in the school resulting in multiple children casualty also may have played a part to expedite the procurement and retire the older jets promptly. BAFs old inventory got a lot of negative media coverage in that accident.

No awacs? No aew aircraft? Just fighters? Congratulations to Bangladesh.

There isn't much secret left in PL-15, they have shut downed most of the production and move on to produce next gen PL-16 except for export PL-15 production.

China's defense relationship with Pakistan is unique and reflects a depth of strategic trust absent with Bangladesh. This is why Pakistan has access to domestic versions of systems like the PL-15, while Dhaka would not.
Considering the unconfirmed signing and long delivery lead times for the J-10C, it is highly probable that any PL-15s offered to Bangladesh would be the restricted export model.

The Chief Adviser's Office has estimated the base price of each aircraft at $60 million, or $1.2 billion (Tk14,760 crore) for the fleet. Training, equipment, and freight add another $820 million (Tk10,086 crore). With insurance, VAT, agency commissions, civil works, and ancillary costs, the total climbs to $2.20 billion.
This is roughly consistent with PAF's order (PAF's order is denominated in RMB).
Therefore, I believe this is just a plan by Bangladesh, not a real order.

It's generally estimated that the J-10CE fighter jet's price per unit is between $40 million and $60 million. The exact price depends on the customization of the internal systems requested. The higher the configuration, the higher the price.

Because Bangladesh severely lacks other air combat support systems, even if they simply replicate the PAF's order, their actual combat capabilities will still be significantly different from the PAF's.

Additional support is required:
1. Command and decision-making center. This includes central organizations and facilities such as a data processing and analysis center, data links and communications equipment, and a command and control center.
2. AEW&C.
3. Ground-based early warning radar system.
4. Air defense system.

Again ME! I prefer to wait until we see a true official confirmation or better, these aircraft with BAF markings ready for delivery since we are reading such rumours since years from different sources of varying credibility …

thats great news.Hope you guys buy whole new complete sytem with awacs air defence radars and jet. it would completely transform Bangaldeshi airforce

One caveat would be that China would need to ensure that no future India-aligned BD government (like AL) shares the technology with the Indians.
How would BD ensure that given the subservience of Sheikh Hasina to her allies in ND?
I think through Pakistan, China can ensure that.....plus given the high level meetings and visits by Bangladehi armed forces to Pakistan shows that Bangladesh would rather align itself with Pakistan and China and reap the benefits than the corrupted, bully induced relationship with bhindians.

Another great victory of the retarded Indian foreign policy.

If Bangladesh does get in the China camp, India can kiss its influence good bye.

I think Pakistan will help stand up BAF since Pakistan has enough experience with integrating and training on Chinese systems.

Also no one comes close to the training that PAF imparts on pilots in the whole of South Asia/South East Asia region.....with real combat results and tactics.

This is actually a win for China too.

1. Operative word is "Plans".
2. Highly doubtful if the PL-15 series will be provided.

According to yankeesama, the PL-15 is already an outdated technology, and even because its production method is too old (2010s technology), the latest PL-16 is cheaper to produce than the PL-15.

This is a very important question. The military is currently undergoing many changes as we speak starting with cutting the extra "fat" accumulated over the last 15 years. With this potential purchase, there are still many items pending to make it a truly effective force. There are also talks about acquiring the Eurofighter Typhoon which leaves me scratching my head as to why would they do this(?) It makes little sense to me.

That said, there are still many pro-Indian, pro-BAL dalals within Bangladesh's bureaucracy and civil society. Some are closet supporters and even agents. And last but not least, the Bangladeshi media entertainment industry; which has close ties in India. And we all know the role that India's media industry plays. The episode involving a little-known Bangladeshi model trying to honeytrap a Saudi diplomat for sensitive/confidential information shows this vulnerability.

The elite of the old who were 100% responsible for solidifying the BAL rule are still very much present and active to varying degrees. The war against the BAL and their Indian deep state allies is still far from over.

According to retired officer POP3, the Chinese military is well aware that the United States has sufficient intelligence sources on Pakistan. Since they have allowed the export of J-10 fighters to Pakistan, they are certainly not worried about the potential leakage of the J-10's data.
