Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

Unless we bring in pure PR - nothing will change.

Bal and BNP have brainwashed 2/3 of population.

Only 1/3 are truly independent.

PR will make the genuine independents king makers.

Yep, PR is the way to go and the only way to break this 2-party polarised yo-yo.

The only downside is that this will slow things down in terms of political decision making, but the alternative with BNP/AL tag-team corruption and thuggery is worse.

Also, it make finally force BD politicians to learn that the only way to govern is to tolerate different points of view.

As you can see from the goading of you and me - tolerance of plurality is absent even amongst the online armchair generals!

development will be slow but will be more sustainable.

After the breakneck speed under Hasina - slowdown is not so bad.

Bangladesh finally needs a maturing political system. And rid the body politics of thugs and gangsters.

BAL has been protesting in Gopalganj and vandalized some military cars. Army response below. Ah how satisfying.

People have named it Laylatul Mair 😂

This is the type of culture that BD needs to eliminate.

BA is just acting like thugs here by beating these vandals.

They should have been detained and then prosecuted as per law.

If the army does not respect the law, then why should the common man or woman.

While I agree that army should have followed the law and placed them under arrest, but we have to remember that police are still not back in duty across the country. Especially not in Gopalganj. Army still has the responsibility to ensure law and order. So under the circumstances, they decided to dole out punishment and let the perpetrators go with warnings. You simply can't attack army and not go unpunished.

Now imagine the same situation had happened under Hasina - these people would have been beaten, detained in illegal prisons for years without charge and worse, have some of them killed extrajudicially.

I think compared to that, these people had it very easy.

If current regime cannot be significantly better than BAL - there’s no point to current regime.

People will tire of it very fast.

Hasina’s assertion was that Bangladesh can only be ruled through iron fist.

If the current regime cannot disapprove her - she will be back with vengeance!

You have to understand why BAL and BNP keeps making a comeback.

It’s because the alternatives, to date, have been much worse!

@UKBengali

I think BD will be ok as long as they reassure China that they won't get too close to US.
BD needs the finance and infrastructure investments from China, while at the same time just purely dealing with India from an economic perspective.

In return for mutually beneficial economic co-operation from India(like power connectivity and full trade connectivity with Nepal and Bhutan), BD will keep the NE of India "quiet" by not providing any assistance to NE rebel groups.

This way they can turn the economy around within 12-18 months and people see real tangible signs of hope.

I don't think BNP/AL will ever be as significant as they used to be as BD'shis are now far more educated and are able to think for themselves better. People will want more serious politicians who talk logic than make absurd promises that they cannot fulfil.

As long as the government sincerely reforms the political and administrative structure then there is no reason that BD cannot be a successful democracy along the lines of Indonesia.

Bro!

The gutter mentality (like cheering beatings) clouds too many!

South Asians are still not fully civilised!

Yep, and we intend to start the process with you and @UKBengali first.

Born and brought up in the west. Living in an all white area.

Never had the opportunity to be South Asian.

We learnt to debate without talking at 100 miles per hour and without shouting.

You lot on the other hand - will always revert to your upbringing.

Now THAT'S what I call downbringing.
Consider yourself demolished, @Afif, and crawl away to die like a good desi in 'Desh.

Are you trying to act tough on a anonymous forum? 🤣

You talk like you own Bangladesh society. How pathetic. If you cant handle different opinions on a forum made specificially for that, without making personal attacks, then why are you here!??

I critisize uncivilized behaviour of sections of BDeshi all the time when i am on visit. All people i come across in BD does the same.

Why are you so butthurt?

For your information you and whoever you mean by «we» arent scaring anyone.

This is the biggest flaw of south Asians!

Cannot handle criticisms or plurality of views.

And mob mentality!

Hard truths has to be told.

South Asians need to look in the mirror. Otherwise there will be no salvation.

The way they cheer mob justice is truly animalistic!

Sometimes we who have been blessed to have lived part of our life in funtional western societies sees the flaws in our birth societies. When we criticize our society its not out of hatred, but of love for our birthplace.

As long as there is no freedom of speech, there wont be free advanced society, anywhere. Violence is the norm in South Asia. Thats a fact. The political leaders are the way they are because they reflect the people they lead, broadly speaking.

In Norway, we criticize, ridicule everyone. The King, Queen, Prime Ministers, Mullahs, Priests, racists, bad immigrants. Everyone is free to do so without feeling fear of violence. Its a cornerstone in our society.

You can make a country somewhat technologically advanced, with clean air and good health service. But you can never make a truly free and loving society when violence and threats are accepted acts of conduct.

There is emotional intelligence and intellectual intelligence.

Intellectual intelligence can be developed regardless of democracy and rule of law.

But only free societies can develop emotional intelligence.

Empathy is a sign of emotional intelligence.

It unlocks critical thinking and productivity.

It means you can work 36.5 hours a week and live a lavish life. Oh! And enjoy 35 days of paid leave.
