Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

So, it seems u r supporting the vandalism, mob lynching, and persecution currently happening across the country. That’s truly disappointing. No one deserves to be brutalized for holding a different opinion, this is simply not okay.

We've witnessed the same coldness from the authorities when it comes to curbing violence against BAL activists, religious minorities, and anyone who dares to think differently. This government’s abject failure to bring justice against the extremists who burned down over 100 mazars in broad daylight has exposed just how weak and unwilling they are to act.

These zealots are completely out of control, and as a result, international media has started portraying Bangladesh as an extremist country where fundamentalists run rampant. Just imagine the consequences such headlines will have on foreign investment and international reputation.

If this lawlessness continues unchecked, we’ll not only lose our standing in the global community but also the basic sense of safety and unity within our own country.

What's the source of your claim that 100 mazars were burnt down?

It’s absolutely disgraceful what these Islamists are doing.

Destroying Mazars is terrorism 101.

Tough actions needs to be taken against these terrorists!
Who will take the action?

The fox has been given the responsibility to guard the hen house. U know it very well what will happen in the end.

Teen shot in head during July protests dies

Md Ashiqur Rahman Hridoy, a teenager who was shot during the student protests in Dhaka last year, has died while undergoing treatment in Patuakhali. The 17-year-old passed away on Friday afternoon at the Bauphal Upazila Health Complex, eight months after being shot in the Jatrabari area of the capital.

Hridoy was the son of rickshaw driver Ansar Hawlader from Paschim Jauta village in Bauphal. Bauphal Upazila Health Officer Abdur Rauf said, “Hridoy was brought to the hospital in critical condition around noon. Due to the severity of his condition, we referred him to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal. However, the family couldn’t transfer him in time.

He passed away later in the afternoon.” According to the family, Hridoy worked as a labourer in Dhaka and had taken part in the anti-discrimination protests in July last year. On Jul 18, he was shot in the head in the Jatrabari area. He initially sought treatment in secret. After Aug 5, he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors were able to remove two bullets from his head, but a third remained lodged.

As a result, Hridoy never fully recovered. “I couldn’t afford advanced treatment for my son. I sold my rickshaw and a cow to cover whatever medical expenses I could. If he had received treatment abroad, my son might still be alive,” said his father Ansar Hawlader.

Hridoy’s elder brother, Md Sohag Islam Anis, added: “He had been seriously ill for a long time. He was in constant pain and often had a fever. No one came forward to help with his advanced treatment. He died because he didn’t receive the care he needed.”

An excellent video by former BBC and Channel 71 journalist Nobonita, where she delves into the recent vandalism incidents at Bata, KFC, and several other multinational companies in Bangladesh. She also talked about the broader economic and political turmoil in the country. This is the first time I'm watching her video, and I've become a fan of her channel due to her sarcastic tone.

Ohh, didn't know that rule. If u wish, u can delete that post. Translation won't fully capture the essence of that video. Thx.

I can confirm from friends in Bangladesh that the law and order situation has really deteriorated. Safety and social stability is a prerequisite to economic growth.

Quite a few posters here are partisan and see everything in binary terms, the situation is more nuanced. If you do anything but endorse their narrative they will start engaging in personal attacks and labelling you as supporter the party which they are opposed to. Whilst there was economic growth under Hasina there was also Awami League cadres brutalizing people up and down under the country, but on the other hand whilst Yunus has his advantages there are problems including the students and their very negative influence on the government, the breakdown of law and order and unnecessary antagonizing of India (the guardian of the seas comments by Yunus doesn't fall in that category by the way and is just the anti-Muslim Indian media trying to vilify and intimidate Bangladesh, the RAW connected Gaurav Arya basically threatened to invade our country).

Elections must be held soon whilst necessary reforms must be undertaken.

Yunus is doing a difficult job and I wish him the best. Most likely the next ruling party will be the BNP but hopefully a reformed BNP not engaged in massive corruption et la the early 2000s and not too close to radicals and extremists (including rabid India-haters) but more nationalistic and pro-Bangladesh.

Very good observation. Some people just live in their cocoon, and find it difficult to make factual judgement based on wisdom. It'd be better for them if they could take a leaf out of Grossmann's book and try to see things from from an observer or third party perspective in order to develop a better understanding of the situation.

Anyway, the brutality inflicted by BCL is unquestionable, and even many staunch supporters of BAL used to despise them with passion. In fact, one of the main reasons the general public initially held a favorable opinion of the Shommonoyoks was their promise to disband student politics from university and college campuses. People were hopeful that, in the future, they would no longer have to suffer at the hands of BCL or BCD goons.

It obviously didn’t materialize. Only the face changed, and Chatrodol, Shibir, and some extremist groups simply replaced the BCL, wreaking havoc across the country. Later we have seen how they carried out their brutality in the form of murder, vandalism, arson, extortion and mob lynching.

As for Yunus and his lose tongue, well the less said about this guy, the better it is. His diabolical failure to control the extremists is the reason why we have suffered so much in recent months. He is scared to take action against these extremists who r now running rampant on the streets and vandalizing everything in the name of religion. He gave them a free pass, because they r the ones who r supporting Yunus unquestionably and serving as his PR machinery. He obviously doesn't want to get on their bad side by taking strict measures against them. He needs these extremists on the field fighting for him if things get dirty for NCP against BNP or AL in the upcoming election.

You need to watch out for these gross generalizations without any proof.

For example - regarding the recent vandalism of Bata showroom - you tried to peddle it as a case of extremism, but as everyone else had called it right from the get go that it was a case of criminals taking advantage of the cover of protests to steal merchandise. This was nothing but a case of greed which happens anywhere in the world whenever there is a protest of this magnitude. Police have limited capacity. As was in the case of BLM protests in US.

Here is an extract from news report

Deputy Commissioner of KMP's South Zone, Md Abu Tarek, acknowledged that law enforcement failed to stop the sudden attacks. "We didn't have sufficient manpower in that area when the violence broke out. The attackers launched a surprise assault, and we couldn't disperse them in time."

Another report showing it was greed and had nothing to do with extremism -

14 held after trying to sell stolen Bata shoes on Facebook

You can voice your opinion, but political propaganda will not be tolerated. Your perspective is exactly that of the BAL cyber bot brigade is circulating in social media.

Consider this the final verbal warning.

Correctly depicted. As they say "as you sow as you reap".

Under the prioritization of Hasina and Awami league, Anti-Bd element started to depict Islamic personality to humiliate them since 1971.

Now, tide has turn. Now disposed league is in receiving end.

Bd people celebrated Bangla new year while remembering the July revolution. They depicted Hasina as evil character because she killed thousands of people while she was in power. Lesson for traitor.

Seriously, mate? I got flagged for stating a cold, hard fact about the rise of extremism in Bangladesh? Wow. Rise of extremism in BD is not a propaganda, all the renowned newspapers in Bangladesh including world renowned Newyork times opines the same.

U can divert that coordinated attack on KFC, BATA, Dominos stores by the extremists across the country as actions by the fringe groups trying to steal goods from the store. But, it won't change the fact that Hundreds of radicals stormed those places and destroyed everything in the most barbaric, calculated way.

It was nothing short of a complete failure by both the police and the army. These weren’t remote locations, they were well known, developed areas in major cities. Yet the extremists had hours to do whatever they wanted, and hardly any law enforcement showed up during the chaos. That’s utter incompetence as we not only have police but we also have armies on the ground with magistracy power.

https://www.tbsnews.net/bangladesh/...s-pizza-bata-stores-vandalised-sylhet-1109951

And let’s not pretend this was an isolated incident. It has almost become a norm. Just a day before Pahela Baishakh, these extremists vandalized the stage at DC Hill near the Buddhist temple which was set up for the Bengali New Year celebration forcing the entire Boishakhi program to be cancelled. That’s a direct assault on our culture and traditions

https://en.bddigest.com/extremists-...hakhi-stage-vandalized-celebration-cancelled/

Furthermore, Just a week before Pahela Baishakh an Ahmadiyya prayer centre got vandalised during pro Palestine rally in Rajbari.

https://bdnews24.com/bangladesh/fa9f7e213b54

Just a week before that, a Hindu man's house vandalized in Tangail over Facebook comment.

https://www.thedailystar.net/news/b...dalised-tangail-over-facebook-comment-3860936

The situation is so grave that another wing of this so called students voiced their deep concern about the rise in extremist activities, and religious fanaticism across the country as they feel that it might threaten the sovereignty of the country.

https://www.daily-sun.com/post/795045

Remember, these incidents all happened in the past couple of weeks. I won’t even bother mentioning the way extremists demolished dhanmondi 32, vandalized liberation war museum, organized multiple rallies waving ISIS flags and spread dogmatism across the country since these news r a few months old.

If all these things fail to convince u that radicals have been running rampant on the streets of Bangladesh and inflicting terror, I don't know what will.
