Barclays cutting 5,000 jobs as it increases reliance on AI

AI could also advance humanity by a thousand years and solve complex issues such as living forever and more. No one knows for sure what it will bring but so far it has taken more jobs than it has created especially in those sectors where jobs are easily replaced e.g. India/phillipino back office roles and IT roles

Indeed, humanity is a new 'uncharted territory'. No one knows what lies ahead. If I were to make a wild guess: Our apprehensions maybe like those who feared the Industrial Revolution and those who feared the Internet arrival but both those changes humanity to adapt to the changes and created even more prosperity for the millions. Maybe, just maybe, after some years of the negative impact of AI, humanity will find a new way to advance. At least that's my hope.

Yeah I agree I am sure we will find a way to best manage situations. Blacksmiths used to be everywhere and make horse shoes and tools for everyone, within a matter of years there were hardly any blacksmiths to be found but the world got cars and machines to make tools and everything. So in the end we will adapt and hopefully AI is able to solve some complex issues in biology, space-time, neurology etc

You'd be surprised at how much fraudsters these guys have become. First of all they do not have any skills just tukkay and brute forcing everything and then have the audacity to ask thousands for a mere hours of work. I have literally stopped hiring electricians and do all the work in home myself, unless its a laborious task in which I tell them each and everything to do on my commands and not use their brain. I also do small masonry work myself. Only plumbing is the thing where I still have to rely on outsiders and its the worst nightmare dealing with those charlatans. One guy broke my wash basin, another broke a mixer set trying to brute force open with hammer hits when it was jammed, they don't even have WD40 to loosen things. There is a reason why skilled workers earn more abroad because they are qualified and do quality work.

thats bcaz all or most of those guys (like so-called mohallay ka plumber/electrician) are just guys without schooling or proper skilled training in that field.......bas loagon ke sath kaam ker ker ke seekha hai, and then they go their ways.......sometimes i observed they did not even properly do assessment and don't switch off live wires to do their work, such a big risk, and then they start and end up breaking stuff and say oh yeah it broke.
Even the tools they use are ancient........one thing that perplxed me always as how they had very little tools and they use those everywhere.......these days there are so many special tools that make the job easier and quick but these guys are too cheapo to buy those.
its always a gamble in Pakistan about that plumber or "electrician" that we call to fix small problems around the home.

only time we had actual electrical engineer/grads/smarts come to the home was during the installation of the complete solar system.....

American Express announced 3,500 head count cut.

sign of the times bro.....
everything customer service is being handed off to AI chatbots and apps and they have gotten rid of humans in call centres........now when u dial its an endless loop of msnus and options, press 1 for this and that.......all deliberate
Getting a hold of customer service is tough now.

just the other day i heard some airline in canada charge like $30 if someone calls them on phone to do a booking or something.....how they charge now for everything........

economies are in the shitter and its going to get worse.......unfortunately the tech advancement is our own very enemy.........weve developed it enough to cut our own livelihoods

A lot of people just don't understand how much the world is about to change. They still think AI is a bubble, my friend is at a construction company implementing AI, this guy himself knew nothing about AI 2-3 months ago, now that company is on track to reduce its office headcount by 60% percent.
