A good example of the consequences of the same policy can still be seen along Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. If Pakistan had not supported such groups in the past, it might have had a much more stable relationship along that border today, perhaps more similar to the situation between Iran and Afghanistan.

Kashmir issue will it be resolved in near future mostly NO. Even when modi, sharif and Erdogan under the soil. Most of us won’t be alive I guess. The easiest resolution is make it IB get over with it. You keep what you have and we keep what we have. Let the people get on with their lives in both areas and let them have peace and prosperity. If they have achieved nothing in 70 years they are not going to win anything.

My wish for Indian Kashmir is to have good schools, good hospitals, good roads and entertainment. If only wishes had wings and may Kashmiris live in peace.

Settlement for what? Handover Kashmir to Pakistan? That was never realistic, and I don't see it becoming realistic in the future.

India tried peaceful talks even after Kargil, but eventually it became clear that neither side was willing to compromise on its territorial claims. After decades of selling dreams to their own people, neither government can easily reverse its position.

So any dialogue is only realistic if neither side demands territory from the other. Otherwise, perhaps maintaining the status quo and focusing on development is more practical than endless talks.

Exactly. In the nuclear era, nothing is going to be fundamentally changed through endless conflict.

The best long-term solution, in my view, would be to accept the LoC as the permanent border and then create a special travel-permission system for the people of Jammu and Kashmir on both sides.

People could be allowed to travel across the border under a controlled system, with proper document verification and time-limited permits, restricted to the Jammu and Kashmir region, including Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Beyond that, both sides should simply focus on improving living standards, infrastructure, employment and economic opportunities for their own people. Instead of spending decades trying to change borders, the priority should be improving the lives of the people who actually live there.

People can fight and have discussions on development etc. ... Not this shity old things that can't change

I am interested in the current situation in Kashmir, is the Indian Hindutva government altering the region's ethnic and religious makeup by systematically settling hindu people from the rest of India there? Is there pressure on Kashmiris to leave the region similar to the pressure faced by Indian muslims, and to a lesser extent Dalits and Adivasis in the rest of India? Will Kashmiris remain the ethnic majority in Kashmir or will they become a minority?

India's conducted what I refer to as "vote fixing". Kashmiris historically have hated the current regime with minimal turnout at elections. Their original plan was identical to the Israeli one for Palestine. They revoked Article 370 unilaterally and without discussion with the Kashmiris. This has not helped India buy the affections of the Kashmiris as they had intended. During my last contact with Kashmir, India was busy in redevelopment, taking up lands that historically belonged to Kashmiris. Objections to these plans became voices in the wilderness. Kashmiris have a loud voice. India's silenced everything from the media to social networking. Its its a bit like switching of Kashmiris completely unless they align and agree with the Indian regime. Anyone raising their voice is fired from employment or arrested. These days no one has any idea how many innocent people are imprisoned. Mr RSS Sin-ha is busy ruling Kashmiris with an iron hand.

India now continues to gloat about connectivity, is running roughshod over Kashmiri lands and building railways and roads. In the meantime, ruining the fragile environment by cutting lots of trees making the place more vulnerable to the perils of climate change.

In the interim, the Kashmiri media is reduced to talking about the weather. Kashmiris suffer in silence. Pakistan Foreign Office makes a few statements. Turkey bleats on and India continues to hold Kashmiris in the largest open air prison in the world.
