Can Pakistan Fix Its Economy? | Atif Mian, Daron Acemoglu, Reza Baqir & Finance Minister Aurangzeb

hate to disagree -- end in remmitances mean 30% decline in living standards with huge increases in human misery

only possible good is that it might focus Pakistani society to think hard about how they improve themselves. that is not a given
Meh, we will be okay, such highly academic discourse is far removed from reality. Most of the people who appear on TV don’t even know the going rate of a kilo of tomatoes at local mandi….

Ivory towers and all that…

Let's just say the vast majority of the population do not pay taxes; thus, they have more disposable income (and many operate in strictly cash transactions). So far, with high inflation, I do not see anyone eating cricket biryani.

we have a huuugggeee informal (cash) economy which keeps it going.
Our people prefer dealing in cash and most hardly can even operate a basic bank account....most don't qualify or can't be paying monthly banking fees.
Illiteracy is big, and nation is not able to operate stuff that requires education and some level of competency for a digitalized economy

From the street food to the mochi in the street to the shopkeepers, they all want cash.

as they say...... CASH IS KING
