With the risk of catastrophic floods being a constant threat on the Indus, can the Gomal Zam dam at an elevation of 2500 feet, above the 800 foot elevation town of Tank, be made into a pumped hydro project? Putting “excess electricity” to use to deal with the flood risk or just holding water when we experience major rains or flooding could help store water as well as have the dam generate more electricity from its own river; the Zhob.
IMHO, Pakistan is perfectly shaped to have multiple pumped hydro systems move any flood water up to the Baluchistan plateau and make that part of Baluchistan arable land, with its different climate, opening up the opportunity for sourcing many imported agricultural products locally.
A mega pumped hydro project, at multiple points could move water up to the plateau, over it, and have water come down just south of Quetta, down to Jacobabad and back Into the Indus.
