i didn’t go through posts was it shot down? Or still under investigation?
This is impossible to answer, but there are some points to consider and point out is that during times of conflict nations work to deconflict airspace for safe commercial and civilian flights, failure to do this would result in ZERO flights in the region.

As of March 2026 there were two safe routes from South Asia > ME / West Asia:

The flight was operating in a safe deconflicted flight corridor as can be see in this second chat:

It is also worth noting that that entire region is a hub of radar activity, any possible projectile launch would have been picked up on the plethora of radars currently monitoring the skies.

Now if you also consider the GPS jamming active in the region at the time, see chart 3 I have prepared:

It is difficult to say if it was accidental, malicious or as a result of a erroneous strike, if it were a strike it would have garnered far more public attention. On average there are 100 non-stop flights daily from the Middle East to Pakistan and vice versa, with a weekly volume of 700+ flights with the busiest route being Karachi to Dubai which has 9 flights per day - approx 57 flights per week.

Intl operators would not expose their business or passengers to risks where the plane can be blown out of the sky. It would ruin businesses; we all remember Malaysian Airlines Flight 17.

This is why deconflicting airspace is so important, and it is important to hold off on any scuttlebutt about missiles and done strikes until an official investigation has concluded.

man this brings back the whole thing about flying blind at night, lack of situational awareness and navigational issues and CRM issues as usual........why were they flying at nighttime?

Is it AF447 or Adam Air all over again?

For Pakistani airlines, they really need to ditch old airframes and get newer latest jets with modern equipments. Flying old 737s is not their cup of tea i guess.

What's wrong with older airframes?

In addition to the DC-3 (C-47) Everts Air Cargo out of FAI operates the DC-6, DC-9, MD-80 and a C-46.

The 46 and 47 often provide air cargo deliveries to some seriously remote Alaskan villages.

Yaar..., a bit unfair of you to bring that up. With the exception of Europe..., all Countries operate at nite (too). Its not uncommon for people to catch the RedEye.

There is so much involved in Aviation that we'd need an entire Topic just to comb through every detail.

But sticking to the Topic & your question: why were they flying at night time?

Q.
What could have prevented them from flying at night time?

(a) The Conflict in the region - but then that would have prevented all the other Airliners too.
(b) Flight Crew not having adequate Rest. Flight Duty Period (FDP).
(c) Technical Issues, but that would have been sorted out by MRO in Sharjah Airport.

Lets say everything is fine. But there is something missing or INOP (Inoperative), then you (Flight Crew/Engineers) resort to something called the 'MEL' - Minimum Equipment List. If for whatever reason, you can not cover that, the Aircraft becomes 'AOG' - Aircraft On Ground (Grounded).

For example, if 01 of the Main Doors becomes INOP, the Flight may continue, but then 50 Passengers will have to be Offloaded.

If even 01 Fire Extinguisher is INOP, they have to resort to MEL.

If a Portable Oxygen is below 500PSI, they have to resort to MEL.

In the Flight Deck, if the FMC of either Pilot is INOP, they have to resort to MEL.

So..., flying at night is not the problem - especially when the flight is under 2hrs. Hell, the distance between Karachi & Lahore/Islamabad might might be the same.

This was an unfortunate incident. Just yesterday I found out that the First Officer (Faisal Jatoi) was the younger brother of one of the Engineers whom I worked with at Eastern SkyJets.

The guy was actually a Doctor by profession. I don't want to go too much into the details about his personal life & move into Aviation. But his last airline was (the now defunct) Serene Air.

Just sad...
Is it AF447 or Adam Air all over again?

Yaar, with the exception of PIA, the other airlines are currently operating new Aircrafts.

airblue, AirSial, flyJinnah (from airarabia) - all have decent aged Fleets. Even Serene Air had the last of the B737-800 NG that were produced (before Boeing moved on to the MAX).
