Across Türkiye, crowds gathered to mark May 19, commemorating the moment Mustafa Kemal Ataturk arrived in Samsun in 1919, igniting the armed resistance against occupying forces of Allied forces at the conclusion of World War I that would become the Turkish War of Independence.

I'm in Turkey for the past couple of days, Goreme in Cappadocia, enjoying some amazing food and chai. Seeing lots of flags and posters of Atta Turk. I've been travelling for the past week and a half, starting from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Georgia and Tbilisi. In Azerbaijan I was surprised to see so many Pakistani flags in shops and on people's front doors, along with the flag of Turkey, they seem to really appreciate our help against Armenia in Karabakh. They seemed very friendly and chatty when they learnt I had Kashmiri/Pakistani heritage.
