China’s automotive industry recorded an export value of 798.39 billion yuan (around 112.8 billion USD) in the first ten months of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 14.3%, according to the General Administration of Customs, according to IT-home. The data reflect the continued expansion of Chinese vehicle exports despite slowing global trade growth.

During the same period, China’s total goods exports reached 22.12 trillion yuan (3.12 trillion USD), up 6.2%, while imports were 15.19 trillion yuan (2.14 trillion USD), roughly unchanged from a year earlier. The automotive sector was among the strongest contributors to export growth, outperforming the broader manufacturing average. Mechanical and electrical products accounted for over 60% of the country’s exports, with automobiles and semiconductors leading the gains.

In October alone, vehicle exports rose 34% from a year earlier, while integrated circuit exports increased 26.9%, according to customs data. Analysts say this points to ongoing demand for electrified and high-tech products in overseas markets. The trend has enabled Chinese automakers to expand their presence in emerging regions, including Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

However, China’s overall exports in October fell 0.8% year-on-year, the first monthly decline in several months. Economists cite last year’s high comparison base, fewer working days due to the Mid-Autumn holiday, and weaker demand from Western markets as key factors. Despite this, private enterprises continued to play a significant role in foreign trade, accounting for 21.28 trillion yuan (3.00 trillion USD) in combined imports and exports, a 7.2% increase year-on-year.

The General Administration of Customs did not disclose a breakdown of export destinations or vehicle types. Still, industry data suggest electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles remain major drivers of growth. Strong EV exports from brands such as BYD, SAIC, and Chery have bolstered China’s position as one of the world’s largest vehicle-exporting nations.

Looking ahead, analysts expect full-year auto exports to remain above 2024 levels but possibly at a slower pace as external demand softens and trade restrictions tighten. Still, the automotive sector continues to outperform other manufacturing segments, underlining China’s shift toward higher-value production and global market expansion.

Chinese automaker FAW has achieved a historic milestone in the automotive sector with the Hongqi HS6, a plug-in hybrid SUV that traveled 2.326 kilometers without refueling. This feat, recognized by the Guinness World Records, reinforces the model's efficiency and range, and highlights the advancement of Chinese engineering in new energy vehicles.

Journey from Shangri-La to Guangzhou

The journey began in Shangri-La on October 30th and ended in Guangzhou on November 3rd. During the five-day trip, the vehicle crossed cities such as Kunming, Baise, and Wuzhou, demonstrating remarkable endurance and fuel efficiency. This achievement surpassed the previous record, setting a new performance standard among plug-in hybrid SUVs.

Impressive efficiency and performance.

The Hongqi HS6 PHEV combines a 1,5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with highly efficient electric systems. The powertrain generates up to 495 horsepower in the all-wheel-drive version and 225 hp in the front-wheel-drive configuration.

The combustion engine's torque reaches 225 Nm, and the thermal efficiency is 45,21%, a high figure for hybrid vehicles.

The top speed is 204 km/h, and the total weight varies from 2.040 to 2.285 kg, depending on the configuration. This combination of power and lightness contributes to a total range of up to 1.651 kilometers under ideal usage conditions, in addition to an electric range that can reach 249 km, according to the CLTC standard.

Technology and comfort inside

The interior of the HS6 PHEV reflects Hongqi's focus on technology and comfort. The dashboard adopts a dual-screen layout, combining the central control display with a screen facing the front passenger. The package also includes a fully digital instrument panel and a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, reinforcing the vehicle's modern and premium look.

Global expansion of the Hongqi brand

Hongqi will begin pre-sales of the HS6 PHEV on November 15th. Aboutna, with expansion plans for Europe and the Middle East. The strategy seeks to position the model as a direct competitor among premium hybrid SUVs, standing out for its sophisticated design, performance, and long-range autonomy.

The achievement of the world record symbolizes the technological maturity of the Chinese automotive industry and FAW's commitment to sustainable mobility solutions. Recently, the company also announced the acquisition of a stake in the driver assistance startup Zhuoyu, strengthening its investments in autonomous driving and smart technologies.

The Hongqi HS6's record not only proves its energy efficiency but also consolidates the growing presence of Chinese automakers in segments dominated by traditional brands, showing that the new generation of hybrid vehicles is ready to redefine the limits of range.
