Over the past eight months of this year, the number of firms with Russian investors increased by 157, while those with Chinese investors grew by over a thousand.

As of September 1, there were 14,562 enterprises with foreign capital operating in Uzbekistan, according to the State Statistics Agency.

Over the past two months, the number of such companies increased by 682. The majority of the growth occurred in July, with 386 new companies, compared to 296 in August.

Russia remains in the lead with 3,006 joint ventures and subsidiaries. This is 34 more than at the beginning of August and 95 more than in July. However, compared to last year, the increase is only 157 companies.

China is now nearly on par with Russia, with 2,982 companies. Since July, the number of Chinese-invested firms has grown by approximately 150 per month, and by 1,053 over the past year.

Turkey holds third place with 1,836 companies (+117 for the year), with an increase of 37 companies in July and 14 in August. Kazakhstan is in fourth place with 1,070 companies (+121 for the year), with only 5 new companies opened in August compared to 22 in July.

South Korea ranks fifth with 670 companies, but the number of South Korean firms has decreased by 26 over the past year. Following them are the U.S. with 305 companies (+11), Tajikistan with 302 (+56), Kyrgyzstan with 277 (+24), Azerbaijan with 243 (+43), and Germany with 223 companies (+22).

Almost two-thirds of companies with foreign investments are registered in Tashkent. Outside the capital, the highest numbers are found in the Tashkent region (1,641), Samarkand (570), and Fergana regions (475).

In terms of industries, trade leads with over 5,000 joint and foreign-owned companies. It is followed by manufacturing (3,206), construction (1,055), and IT (1,003).

Foreign business presence in Uzbekistan hits new peak as Chinese investment accelerates​

The number of companies with foreign investment operating in Uzbekistan has reached a new record, surpassing 20,000 for the first time, according to the National Statistics Committee. Chinese-backed businesses continued to account for the largest share of new registrations, while the number of companies established with Pakistani investors nearly doubled over the past year.

As of July 1, Uzbekistan had 20,502 operating enterprises with non-resident founders. Their number increased by 581 over the previous month and by 3,817 compared with a year earlier, representing annual growth of 22.9%.

Foreign-owned companies continued to dominate the total, with their number reaching 15,891, up 26.5% year-on-year. The number of joint ventures rose to 4,611 after increasing by 111 during June and by 487 compared with July 2025.

China further widened its lead over other countries by the number of businesses with foreign capital. Uzbekistan is now home to 6,060 companies with Chinese participation, accounting for nearly 30% of all foreign-invested enterprises. Of those, 259 were established in June alone.

Over the past year, the number of Chinese-backed companies increased by 1,868, or 44.5%, accounting for nearly half of the overall annual growth in foreign-invested enterprises.

Russia ranked second with 3,454 operating companies, representing 16.8% of the total. Their number increased by just five during June and by 356 over the past year, or 11.5%.

Russian businesses nevertheless retained the lead in the number of joint ventures, with 941 compared to 863 involving Chinese investors. However, over the past year, Chinese companies established 216 new joint ventures, while businesses with Russian participation launched around six times fewer.

Turkey ranked third with 2,293 companies, including 523 joint ventures. During June, 56 new enterprises began operations, bringing annual growth to 286 companies, or 14.25%.

Kazakhstan followed with 1,307 companies after adding 24 businesses in June and 150 over the past year, equivalent to 12.9% growth. South Korea remained fifth with 725 companies, including four new registrations during the month and an annual increase of 38 companies, or 5.5%.

Afghanistan also continued to expand its business presence in Uzbekistan. As of early July, 685 companies with Afghan founders were operating in the country, 12 more than a month earlier and five more than in the summer of 2025.

The number of companies with Azerbaijani participation rose sharply to 473, marking annual growth of 59.2%. Thirteen of those companies were established in June alone.

The United Arab Emirates ranked among the top 10 countries with 440 companies, up 17.6% year-on-year. Tajikistan had 455 companies, an increase of 27.4%, while India had 426, up 27.9%. They were followed by Kyrgyzstan with 374 companies, up 14.3%, and the United States with 367, also recording annual growth of 14.3%.

Among Uzbekistan's leading foreign investors, Pakistan recorded the fastest growth in business activity. The number of companies with Pakistani participation surged by 91% over the past year, rising from 170 to 325.

Trade remained the largest sector for foreign-invested enterprises, with 7,289 companies, accounting for 35.5% of the total. Manufacturing ranked second with 4,031 companies, or 19.6%. The information technology sector moved into third place for the first time, overtaking construction with 1,690 companies compared with 1,689 in the construction industry.

Uzbekistan planning to host Non-Aligned Movement summit and lead the organization for two years​

Uzbekistan has announced its intention to host the 20th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and to assume its leadership from 2027 to 2029. This significant plan was revealed by the country’s Foreign Minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov.



“It is a great honor for us to announce this historic milestone—Uzbekistan's plans to host the 20th summit and lead the Movement from 2027 to 2029, focusing on key priorities such as energy security, sustainable development, and strengthening global trade systems,” Minister Saidov stated on his Telegram channel.

He also noted Uzbekistan's participation in the recent ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement. “We fully support Uganda as the newly appointed chair for 2024-2026 and express our gratitude to Azerbaijan for its successful previous chairmanship,” the statement read.
