China hits back at Canada with fresh agriculture tariffs

The trade war has reached a point where Trump only has two cards left: 10% base tariffs and 10% fentanyl tariffs All the cards played out have only yielded a few soybean orders.

China still has a bunch of aces up its sleeve.

But MAGA thinks Trump is winning.

Americans see their soybeans as irreplaceable, like rare earths. So the Americans won again, and that's what Trump told their voters. Brazil and Argentina say they have studied soybeans for half a lifetime and still can't see the difference.
Maybe I should go to the slaughterhouse and ask what's different about pork fed with American soybeans, and if it's going to sound the slogan "America wins."

China is only rolling back for one year the additional REE controls announced 9 October, not the global REE controls and licensing implemented in April 2025.

It’s unclear if the roll back is US-specific or global. Key Details of the 9 October REE Announcement:

- Expanded Scope of Controlled REEs: The controls now cover 12 REEs in total, adding five heavy REEs (such as dysprosium, terbium, holmium, erbium, and thulium) to the previous seven lighter REEs targeted in April 2025. These heavy REEs are essential for high-performance magnets used in EVs and military hardware.

- Broader Restrictions:

- Exports of REE extraction, smelting, separation, metal production, magnetic material manufacturing, and recycling technologies are prohibited without approval.

- Products containing even 0.1% or more of Chinese-origin REEs (by value) require export licenses if manufactured abroad.

- Applies to semiconductors, AI-related devices, permanent magnets, and sputtering targets incorporating these REEs.

- Chinese citizens and entities are barred from providing "substantive assistance" to foreign REE operations.

- Effective Date: Most measures take effect on December 1, 2025, providing a roughly two-month window amid ongoing U.S.-China talks.

- Rationale: Cited as protecting "national security" and dual-use technologies, the announcement was timed ahead of anticipated U.S.-China leader talks at the APEC summit later in October 2025.

Another win by Trump, haha

Military rare earth, that is, heavy rare earth, 95% of the deposits are distributed in China, and another 3% are distributed northern Myanmar which is controlled by China. Heavy rare earth is different from light rare earth, and this is a card that the United States can never win no matter how much time uses.

If Trump wants to exchange heavy rare earth for tariffs, then he is really too naive. Now the United States has no cards that can be exchanged for heavy rare earth. can only negotiate soybeans and light rare earth.

See how the Japanese and Koreans act, such subservient people, very obviously occupied by the US. Koreans even gave Trump a crown. The last time they did that was to the Ming Emperor.

The first half of the match between the United States and China has entered the rest area, the second half is the match between the United States and India, and I can't wait to see how India handles it.

Carney and Xi agree to tackle 'irritants' in Canada-China relationship
PM says he's pleased after 'turning point' meeting with Chinese president

CBC News · Posted: Oct 31, 2025 7:12 AM EDT | Last Updated: 21 minutes ago

Opening the door to what he calls pragmatic and constructive dialogue, Prime Minister Mark Carney held a bilateral meeting Friday with the president of China on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

It marked the first formal leader-to-leader contact between the two nations since 2017.

In brief remarks before the start of his meeting with Carney, Xi spoke about the long history of co-operation and engagement between Canada and China. And he invited the prime minister for a state visit.

“China is willing to work together with Canada to push China-Canada relations back onto a healthy, stable, and sustainable correct track at an early date, so as to better benefit the people of our two countries,” Xi said in Mandarin Chinese, remarks that were later translated.

Carney also acknowledged the two countries had grown estranged over the last several years.

“Distance is not the way to solve problems, not the way to serve our people,” the prime minister said at the outset before the media was ushered out of the room.

Following the meeting, Carney stopped to say that he was pleased with the talks, which lasted 39 minutes, according to officials in the prime minister’s office.

“This meeting today is long overdue,” Carney said on his way to the APEC leaders dinner. “We now have a turning point in the relationship, a turning point that creates opportunities for Canadian families, for Canadian businesses.”

He didn’t go into specifics.

A readout of the discussion from the Prime Minister’s Office said both leaders directed their officials to move quickly “to resolve outstanding trade issues and irritants.”

The statement went on to say they discussed “solutions to respective sensitivities regarding issues including agriculture and agri-food products, such as canola, as well as seafood and electric vehicles.”

Major Canadian exports to China — especially canola, pork, and minerals — have faced recurring trade barriers.

Is the statue of Trump built by Indians still there? What about the wall in New Delhi?

Of course. There is no chip that is always effective. It is only a matter of time for Western countries to find substitutes for rare earth. are not so arrogant as to win the whole game with one chip.

China has many trump cards in hand, and rare earth and soybeans are just two of them, not all.

Soybeans are chosen because this card almost does no harm to China. Rare earth is chosen because this card has a very small impact on China, and only 1.2 billion of trade will be affected. China has no interest in playing cards like the US ban on chip trade and ship tax, which are very harmful to itself
soybean is jus a commodity that´s too little to win a poker game. rare earth is better it gives China a strong hand. Ccp seems to calculate this move years ago. not a bad move in a long game.
but the real game will be the technology.

SINGAPORE/BEIJING (Reuters) -Chinese soybean importers have stepped up purchases of Brazilian cargoes in recent days as South American prices eased on expectations a U.S.-China trade deal will lead to a resumption of U.S. sales to the world's largest soybean importer.

Buyers have booked 10 cargoes of Brazilian soybeans for December shipment and 10 for March-July with South American prices now quoted below offers being made for U.S. cargoes, three traders said on Monday.

Brazilian soybeans had traded at higher prices than U.S. supplies in recent weeks as steep Chinese tariffs curbed demand for U.S. beans.

"Brazil is now cheaper than U.S. Gulf, and buyers are taking this opportunity to book cargoes," said a trader at an international company that runs oilseed processing plants in China. "We are seeing increased demand for Brazilian beans since last week."

India rapeseed plantings to hit record highs due to favourable weather, Chinese demand

November 5, 20254:27 PM GMT+8Updated 33 mins ago

MUMBAI, Nov 5 (Reuters) - India's rapeseed planting is expected to hit a new high this year due to record Chinese buying of rapeseed meal and above-average rainfall that resulted in favourable soil moisture for the crop.

As the country's primary winter-sown oilseed, the surge in rapeseed production is also poised to help India, the world's largest importer of edible oil, limit costly overseas purchases of cooking oils.

"Farmers made great profits from last year's rapeseed crop, so this year, they're planting even more of it," said Anil Chatar, a leading trader based in Jaipur in the northwestern state of Rajasthan.

The combined planting area for rapeseed and closely related mustard is expected to increase by 7% to 8% this year, he said.

Indian farmers typically sow rapeseed in October and November. So far this year, they have planted 4.17 million hectares, a 13.5% increase compared to the same time last year.

The country planted 8.93 million hectares of rapeseed last year, higher than the five-year average of 7.9 million hectares.

There has been good demand for rapeseed oil domestically this year, while strong export demand for rapeseed meal has come from China, said B V Mehta, executive director of Solvent Extractors' Association of India.

China aggressively began purchasing rapeseed meal from India after Beijing in March imposed a 100% retaliatory tariff on rapeseed meal and oil imports from Canada, its top supplier.

In the first six months of the current fiscal year, which began on April 1, China imported a record 488,168 metric tons of rapeseed meal from India, compared to just 60,759 tons for the entire 2024/25 fiscal year, the association's data showed.

Strong demand for both meal and oil kept rapeseed prices above the minimum support price of 5,950 rupees ($68) per 100 kg set by New Delhi for last year's crop, said Chatar.

India has increased the minimum support price for the new season's rapeseed by 4.2% to 6,200 rupees.

"Rapeseed has way more oil than soybeans. If production keeps up with the planting, it'll help slow down the growth in India's edible oil imports," said a Mumbai-based dealer with a global trade house, who declined to be identified.

The only serious perceived card the US has left is Taiwan, that is Trump also needs loyal coordination and collaborations from the Taiwanese gov. China should only relax ban of heavy military REM to American defense companies until US at least stops supplying weapons to Taiwan and supporting it militarily and also in favor of Taiwan reunification with the Mainland .

Soybeans and rare earths are actually the cards that cause the least damage to China, not the strongest cards.

The strongest cards should be hard alloy and tungsten powder. This card can cut off the supply of all goods in the world, even including oil, clothing, and food.

However, using this card also causes significant damage to China. Unlike the United States, China has not yet reached the point where it needs to play a card that will hurt itself.
