China's first Type 054B frigate commissioned

so displacement=deck space? he asked why there wasnt extra vls amidships- what relevance does displacement have to this?
ok, now count the number of VLS for those much bigger european frigate.
dude, just admitted it you have no idea about the design philosophy for the Chinese frigate, it was never meant to be a arsenal ship

no idea whst your point is tbh. Sylver is also really large. Not as large as Chinese VLS but still quite large. Hence why navies are inducting mixed sylver x mk41 loadout or sylver x ExLS combo

honestly no clue what you are on about
We have the universal VLS system, and they are having the mission for launching ABM and AShBM on type 052D, type 055 and PLA doesn't wanna get another set of smaller VLS, plain and simple.

The PLAN doesnt want compact VLS cells... How strange... The PLAN does not want more VLS in the same footprint...Or are you making stuff up lol.

Anyway, back to the point, the 054A/B cant accommodate any more VLS due to its size. If there was more compact VLS options, then there is potential for more cells, however, without re working the entire hull, not doable

Type 054B actually has a different platform than Type 054A. It is longer and considerably wider than Type 054A. It could potentially be armed with long range SAM.

Yeah, you are one of those game changer type, never consider cost effective, design philosophy and leads to your conclusion, we can't developed a small vls.

never consider cost effective 🤔

wider and longer, you can do this, just to some extent, at some point it will necessitate a new hull

Maybe not something huge like S-400 but certainly something like S-350 sized is fine.

It's a frigate.

Its mission is simply to patrol our oceans, carry supplies to the soldiers on the islands, and escort our merchant ships. Its performance is sufficient, we need to consider cost effectiveness.

As for carrier formations and fleet duels, we have the 052DL and 055, we don't need auxiliary warships like the 054B.
Any indication the PLAN is looking for a larger Frigate, a “Type 054C”, focused on open ocean ASW? Or is that role best served by employing towed sonars on Type 052D Destroyers? Does the PLAN still consider the Type 052D as a “large frigate” as was indicated when offering a Type 052DE at a recent arms expo?

Generally, as I understand it, Frigates are mean to be more than economical designs, modest engine and modest armament, while destroyers have more capable engines and therefore more power for speed, as well as sensors, and possibly heavier armaments.

yes, indeed, however, as h/ajk16 is designed around the hugeeee hq-16 missile, the cells needed to be big. just for example, camm-er is 160kg for 40km+, hq-16 500-600kg and thats before we talk diameter ad length

people might needs some update on HQ16C/F and Chinese version of ESSM.

1, according to a Chinese military forum. The two newly launched 054Bs use four 16PA6V-280STC diesels, which means it doesn't possess any more advantages than the French FDI and British Type 31. Therefore, the configuration of the 054B frigate is not recognized by the Chinese Navy at this stage and is not a standard model. It is expected that in about three to five years, the Type 057 frigate will be in service, with a larger tonnage, two electric propulsion systems, and a new model of diesel engine.

2 The 5,000-ton Type 054B will be a frigate, and the 6,000-ton Type 052D will be a destroyer.
