Chinese Economy: General News, Updates and Discussions

Many people do not understand China’s political system. Some have misunderstandings, while others deliberately smear China’s political system.

China uses a representative election system. The United States uses the electoral college system, and the United Kingdom uses a simple majority system. None of these are true nationwide electoral systems.

In 2016, Democrat Hillary received 3 million more votes than Trump in the nationwide popular vote. However, Trump won.

In the 2024 UK general election, the Reform Party received 14% of the nationwide vote but only won 5 parliamentary seats. The Liberal Democrats received 12% of the nationwide vote but astonishingly won 72 parliamentary seats.

So, can the democratic election systems in Western countries really represent democracy?
China has a representative system that China also calls it all-process democracy. Many Westerners now like to call China's political system Political Meritocracy that involves both selection and election processes. Is the Western style multi-party democratic system the best ever and should be adopted by all countries as American Fukuyama argued in his book End of History and Last Man ? He refuted his original argument now because he sees that in American democracy, a crazy man like Trump and unfit one like George Bush can be elected as presidents that brought disasters to US and the world. So, each country should only adopts what works for that country not just follow the US.

The main job of any gov is taking care of its own people, providing a shelter, a house,, 3 meals a day, healthcare, education, defense, security and happiness

The last thing 99 percent of people want is a fake democracy, by the way invented in Greece, that makes some people, you don’t even know, happy.

Most countries in Asia, Africa, America are happy with democracy while nothing to eat, sleeping under the bridge. That makes no sense at all. Look at Thailand, Philippines they are stuck in endless democracy loop with no way out.

I am not a fan of communism or socialism or capitalism. People should use their brains instead of use dumb ideology.

Your point of view is correct.

No system is perfect; the most suitable one is the best.

People get thrill to vote their leader out of two or three often not so good apples. It gives people the sense they are in charge of things, but then, the elected gov or leader doesn't heed much attention to the people's voices during his/its tenure. Just three minutes of thrill every four years. Worse still, for the undeveloped countries, their population and societies are often ill prepared to practice American or Western style democracy.

Why don't you have open elections where every Chinese is allowed to vote for his choice of leaders?
It is the job of the government in power to take care of its people like education and health and jobs but that is still not democracy. China has come a long way and it's progress is admirable but still not democracy.
Have a nice day
Very shallow understanding of democracy, what people wants, elections, legitimacy and the different between process and results.

democracy means the majority wins. In reality the rich always wins, the majority sleep under the bridge. That’s in the West. As for developing world It makes no sense for them to pursue a model of the West to make the West happy.

China's model worker Yin Yuzhen released a video inviting American friend Sai Koski to visit the Inner Mongolia region of China.

In 1999, Sai Koski saw Yin Yuzhen planting trees on China Central Television to improve the local environment. Sai Koski contacted Yin Yuzhen, believing that Yin Yuzhen could not achieve the goal of improving the environment, and provided her with $5,000. Twenty-seven years later, the $5,000 provided by Sai Koski has grown into a forest of more than 50,000 trees. Yin Yuzhen hopes Sai Koski will return to the Inner Mongolia region of China to visit this beautiful forest.

Investing.com -- China’s solar cell shipments abroad increased 60% year-on-year in April, according to customs data released Monday, maintaining strong growth even after the government eliminated an export tax refund.

The country shipped 1.34 billion solar cells in April, valued at $3.12 billion, compared with the same month last year. The shipments likely understate actual growth in energy terms due to ongoing advances in photovoltaic technology.

April exports declined from the previous month, when China shipped 1.71 billion cells. In volume terms, exports totaled 1.16 million metric tons in April, down from March’s record high of 1.78 million tons.

Export controls will be implemented on key minerals such as rare earths in accordance with laws and regulations.

Regarding rare earths, the Ministry of Commerce stated that China and the United States will jointly study and resolve each other's legitimate concerns. The Chinese government imposes export controls on rare earths and other key minerals in accordance with laws and regulations, and reviews compliant, civilian-use licensing applications. China is willing to work with the United States to create favorable conditions for promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between enterprises of both countries and ensuring the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.

Regarding tariffs, the Ministry of Commerce stated that China hopes the US will honor its commitments and ensure that, regardless of the reasons for imposing or replacing tariffs on China in the future, the level of US tariffs on China will not exceed the level of the Joint Arrangement for Trade and Economic Consultations in Kuala Lumpur, and that further unilateral tariffs on China will be eliminated through subsequent consultations.

At the same time, both sides agreed in principle to discuss a framework arrangement for reciprocal tariff reductions on products of equal size under the Trade Council, with each side having a scale of US$30 billion or more. For products of mutual concern agreed upon by both sides, most-favored-nation tariff rates or even lower are expected to be applied.

Agreed to establish an intergovernmental trade council and an investment council

The Ministry of Commerce stated that China and the United States have agreed to establish an intergovernmental trade council and an investment council. The establishment of these two councils will provide a platform for pragmatic discussions on mutual concerns in trade and investment, facilitating policy exchanges, expanding cooperation, managing differences, and shifting China-US trade consultations from a "crisis-based response" to "mechanized management," thus providing an effective mechanism to guarantee bilateral trade cooperation.

Resumption of registration for qualified US beef exporters to China

Regarding agricultural products, the Ministry of Commerce stated that the U.S. has committed to resolving or substantially advancing the resolution of non-tariff barriers and market access issues for some Chinese agricultural products. These commitments primarily include: first, lifting the automatic detention measures imposed on Chinese dairy products and dairy-containing foods imported into the U.S. since 2008; second, agreeing to accept experimental imports of Chinese potted plants; and third, agreeing to promote the lifting of automatic detention measures on three categories of Chinese aquatic products imported into the U.S. In addition, the U.S. has made positive commitments regarding designating Shandong as a disease-free zone for highly pathogenic avian influenza and expediting the review of applications from relevant Chinese companies to be removed from the import alert red list.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that China has resumed the registration of qualified US beef exporters, lifted restrictions on highly pathogenic avian influenza in some qualified US states, and resumed imports of poultry products from relevant US states. It will also expedite the review of rectification materials from US beef companies whose exports to China were suspended due to drug residue issues, and will engage in exchanges and communication with the US regarding agricultural biotechnology issues of concern to the US.

Taiwan is 9500 miles away from US is just an excuse for Trump US not to get involved in a war over Taiwan with China. The real reason is US can't win the war against China in and around Chinese seas. After all, US have may troops and bases in nearby Japan and South Korea. Trump dares to wage war against Iran that is even further away because he believes US can decimate Iran.
