The People's Republic of China has launched a two-day military exercise, Joint-Sword 2024A, around Taiwan. China's exercises began after the inauguration of Taiwan's new president, Lai Qingde, on May 20. The representative of the Chinese command, Li Xi, informed that the ground forces, naval forces, air force and missile forces are involved in the exercises. He also noted that the purpose of the exercise is to test the “real combat capabilities” of the forces of the Eastern Combat Command Zone. In response to China's exercises, Taiwan brought to the coast launchers of Hsiung Feng III anti-ship missile systems with a range of hitting targets up to 400 kilometers. 10 F-16V fighters were also lifted into the air from Hualien Air Base. The Taiwan General Staff reported that 33 aircraft and 31 Chinese ships were recorded approaching the island.

Russian Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers and Chinese Xian H-6K bombers conducted a joint patrol over the Chukchi and Bering Seas, as well as over the northern part of the Pacific Ocean. During the flight, Russian and Chinese crews in a new area of joint operations worked out issues of interaction at all stages of air patrol. Air cover for the aircraft was provided by Russian Su-30SM and Su-35S fighters. In the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone, the Russian aircraft were accompanied by US Air Force F-16 and F-35 fighters and Canadian CF-18 fighters. The duration of the joint flight of Russian and Chinese aircraft was more than 5 hours.

The Chinese army has begun to equip 155-mm self-propelled howitzers PLZ-05, anti-drone protection called "Mangal". As protection, mesh screens are installed on top and on the sides of the self-propelled guns. This type of protection against drones is used by the Russian and Ukrainian armies and several other countries. The first self-propelled guns with such protection were noticed during artillery exercises of the ground forces of the Western Command of the Chinese army. The protection against drones was installed in response to the appearance of army units in India using drones. The PLZ-05 self-propelled gun was accepted into service in 2007 and is equipped with an automatic gun loading system created on the basis of the Russian self-propelled gun "Msta-S". The firing range of the PLZ-05 self-propelled gun with WS-35 ammunition is up to 100 km, it is worth noting, this is questioned by experts, the barrel length is 54 calibers.
