That is absolutely false and an over generalization of a very very diverse and complex country. The anti Muslim sentiment exists and is politically cashed on in Hindi speaking states of North India. This hate is seen online and in the media because BJP has a firm control on both. Moderates and leftists have been silenced through online bullying and direct police action. Neutral media persons who refused to tow the govt line were fired by news channels and have had to go independent. All mainstream media houses in India are owned by govt cronies.

Now coming to those states where such anti Muslim hate is extremely low/ virtually non existent. These are southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Goa, India's North East such as Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, UTs such as Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Pondicherry.

One thing to note - I believe HDI ( human development index) and especially education has a major role to play on social outlook and ideology. Kerala, which has the highest HDI among large Indian states has virtually non existent anti Muslim hate. This is the only Indian state that has consistently matched China and even surpassed it in HDI. Kerala interestingly has only been governed by the Congress led UDF and the Communists under LDF. They have never had BJP and this will continue.

Thr most backward states in India with an HDI comparable to African countries such as Bihar, UP have the most brainwashed Hindutva infected people. Also, MP and Gujarat which have poor numbers in Education index, have a substantial population that follow Hindutva.

So education and human development shapes political outlook and those states that have good education and good HDI generally don't get affected by such religion centric political ideologies like Hindutva.

I ask the following to learn and not to score a point. You seem fairly confident about Kerala but from what I read from posts by Indians here West Bengal was seen as a bastion of secular non-communal progressive values and its fall to the BJP was unthinkable but yet what was previously unthinkable has now - unfortunately - become a reality.

a. What explains West Bengal?
b. Considering what happened in West Bengal how confident can we that Kerala won't escape this fate? (I do know Kerala is multi-religious e.g. Christian, Muslim and Hindu and not overwhelming Hindu like the cow belt, BIMARU states).

I am constantly shocked at this wishy washy personification of India, facts can go to hell.
Every reasonably large country is a complex country, especially when you start mentioning hundreds of millions, It's nothing special to India, this statement is repeated so often it has become redundant. It needs to stop.

This Kumbaya interpretation of South India and North east India is also redundantly fake, it's a bit much and time to let go.


Both South and North east India have massive problems with extremist mindset although admittedly less so then the Hindi belt, Including religious and caste issues. Although the communalism variety seems to be centred in the Hindi belt, plus Gujarat, Maharashtra etc.

Pointing out small corners here and there doesn't justify a pass.

Now, the overall picture. The Indian constitution calls out to the mythological Bharat of Hindu religion. If they had named the country Bharat, it's a name, that’s fine. But when you name the country India that is Bharat, it’s directly linking the state of India created in 1947 to the religious ideal in the Hindu religion, while pretending to be secular. That’s Hypocrisy.

Furthermore, the constitution of India reserves about 24% of the seats for scheduled Castes and tribes, this is also within the Hindu framework. It's dishonesty because it only provides protection for those within the Hindu system. System because the constitution recognises Sikhs within the Hindu umbrella, against the wishes of the Sikhs themselves. There are so many duplicities.


Religion is forced on everybody in the Indian army, no matter who you are you must participate in combined religious worship. Forcing Christians and Muslims to worship in forms which amounts to idolatry. They are even forced to participate in weapon worshipping ceremonies where weapons are garlanded and ordained in Hindu worship style. There is no choice.

Britain from which India inherited virtually everything, including the military and it's practices does not force it's multi faith soldiers to worship together.
Pakistan which recognises Islam as the official religion, does not force it’s multi faith soldiers to worship together. Respecting individual practice.

Why is India claiming to be secular forcing Hindu style worship on everyone?
To my knowledge, India is the only country in the world which forces soldiers from all faiths to worship together and that worship is organised in the Hindu framework. Yet, claims to be secular. That is fundamentally wrong.


A 1994 Indian supreme court judgment concluded that a “mosque is not an essential part of Islam”. A Hindu majority court telling Muslims that mosque is not part of your religion. A mosque is so integral to Muslim cultures that when it is destroyed it is referred to as having made shahid, yet the Supreme Court of India has declared that a mosque is not an essential part of Islam.

There is a long list of glaring issues, the problem is Indians love to point fingers at others yet are completely ignorant to the permanent extremism inside their own country, always excuses. India literally has a radical Hindu party in power, backed by an extremist Hindu organisation the RSS with thousands of chapters across the country.

Your whole premise is based upon a false assumption that there is an Indian nation or a singular Indian identity.

Apart from defining it as Not-Pakistani, there exists no definition for this alleged national identity. It's a collection of insecurities breeding freely with xenophobic polity of neo colonialism.
