CPEC News and Discussions

Security of people working on CPEC including the Chinese needs to be foolproof but unfortunately we are not.
Spot on. I have a friend working as a medical equipment sales agent for overseas market, he told me that it's extremely hard to find people willing to stay and work in Pakistan even with very high salary, life always comes first before money.

Pakistan needs to step up. It's government is corrupt and incompetent. It should've already been booming by now.

Security of people working on CPEC including the Chinese needs to be foolproof but unfortunately we are not.

Winning Strategy:
expanding CPEC to include Iran and Afghanistan would:
  • Boost regional trade, making all stakeholders invested in CPEC’s security.
  • Reduce terrorism by giving Iran/Afghanistan incentives to stop militants.
  • Stabilize Balochistan through economic development.
Recommended Actions:
  • Formalize a "CPEC Plus" agreement with Iran & Afghanistan.
  • Build joint security checkpoints on Pak-Iran & Pak-Afghan borders.
    Accelerate Gwadar-Chabahar connectivity (rail, pipelines).
  • Offer Taliban infrastructure deals in exchange for cracking down on TTP.
This strategy turns CPEC from a Pakistan-China project into a regional economic lifeline, making it too valuable to fail.

You're absolutely right to be frustrated with Pakistan’s corrupt and incompetent governance, which has repeatedly failed to deliver real progress despite the country’s potential. Relying on external powers (East or West) has only led to dependency, debt, and exploitation. What Pakistan needs is a homegrown, hybrid, long-term sustainable system, one that prioritizes self-reliance, meritocracy, and institutional reform over short-term political games.

Well here I partially disagree because the prevalent business model among many Chinese medical equipment sales agents is the root cause of this issue.

Most of these agents view their products merely as trade items and show little interest in properly registering their companies and products in accordance with government rules and regulations.

This is largely due to the significant time commitment involved—typically a year or two, or even more—and their disinclination to operate as a formally registered company within Pakistan.

It's also important to consider that throughout this initial period, they must invest capital, with returns only materializing after all registrations are complete, products are imported, and sales are made. This typically translates to a two-to-four-year investment with no immediate return.

Consequently, many Chinese sales agents encountered in Pakistan operate on a trade-oriented model, primarily focused on purchasing items at the lowest possible rates from any available source and then reselling them. This often leads to customers frequently switching suppliers over minor price differences.

@mod: Appologies in advance as this is probably off-topic but we don't have DM options so just for clearification i posted here in reply of original message.

ISLAMABAD: The Chinese foreign minister has praised the ‘ironclad’ friendship between China and Pakistan and reiterated his country’s firm support for Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, combating terrorism, and pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions.

“China will continue to support Pakistan in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs,” said Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, in a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Beijing on Wednesday.

Wang added that both countries should work toward an “upgraded version” of CPEC, expanding cooperation into areas such as industry, agriculture, energy, mineral resources, human resource development, counter-terrorism, and security.

The statement was released after high-level talks between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, who is also the country’s foreign minister, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Wednesday.

According to the statement, China and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. The discussions emphasised bilateral cooperation in security, economic development, and regional stability, while also highlighting shared goals under the CPEC and the vision of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

Deputy PM Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the one-China principle and expressed admiration for China’s achievements in innovation and technology. He conveyed Pakistan's desire to expand comprehensive cooperation with China and called for continued Chinese support to help Pakistan address economic and security challenges.

He also assured his counterpart that Pakistan remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions operating within its borders.

Earlier, Pakistan, China and Afghanistan agreed to extend the CPEC into Afghan territory, marking a significant step in trilateral cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The agreement came during an informal trilateral meeting held in Beijing between Deputy PM Dar, Chinese FM, and Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The three sides termed their cooperation vital for regional stability and agreed that economic integration was key to shared progress. They also stressed the importance of combating terrorism and working collectively toward peace and sustainable development.

As much as I hate bringing politics into topics. I honestly couldn't give a damn about Imran, we just want decent, capable leadership. Until that happens, no amounts of policies and statements will make a difference.
It's not asking for much. For how long will this nation of 260 million be ruled by clowns. I want to see normality before I die. Just Tired of constant politics instability bullshyt.

IMO :
This is not an “upgraded version” of CPEC. It is more like a “Plan B”.

As we all know, CPEC is one of the important trade routes planned by China. However, since the project was launched, it has not yet played any role as a channel. A large number of core projects originally planned are in a state of suspension, and only some peripheral projects are in operation.

The Chinese government has invested a lot of money and energy in CPEC, but has not received any benefits so far. There are many doubts among the Chinese people.
At the same time, there are many opposing voices within Pakistan. The Pakistani government has not tried its best to promote CPEC (is it a problem of ability or attitude?).

Now, the Chinese government is promoting this new plan, which should be a "Plan B". Establish a backup route for CPEC: China-Afghanistan-Iran, and ease the situation in the region at the same time.

If the Pakistani government continues to treat CPEC with the current attitude, then this new route will completely replace CPEC.
If the Pakistani government readjusts its policies and vigorously develops CPEC, then the new route will be connected with the original route, strengthening the interactive trade in the region. All parties will benefit.

Personal opinion, for entertainment purposes only.

The thing that makes me furious is that all of these projects and yet the biggest beneficiaries are the chors who take huge amounts of kickbacks and burdening us with loans
No such thing.

The money is with China, distributed by China and given to the Chinese who mainly manage the projects. The money doesn't go into Pakistani banks.

The Chinese build and own the projects for number of years, make profit on them and then transfer them to the countries they have built it for.

That's the 'Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT)' model they've applied on the corridors under BRI.

The corruption accusations by the incompetent PTI Government were made in order to appease the US/IMF who wanted to see the details that were confidential. This is what lead to the freezing of any further expansion of CPEC back then.

You want entertainment ..here it goes ..... Pakistani crooks joined hands with Chinese crooks and ripped off poor Pakistan....most of the money that china invested has gone back to Chinese coffers , along with exorbitant profits ....it wasn't a favour to Pakistan.... you want some other route for CPEC , go ahead and good luck .

If the Pakistani government continues to treat CPEC with the current attitude, then this new route will completely replace CPEC ...
Which attitude is that?

... If the Pakistani government readjusts its policies and vigorously develops CPEC, ...
China is building and operating CPEC. Pakistan has given permission for China to use the corridor.

... then the new route will be connected with the original route, strengthening the interactive trade in the region. ...
Why hasn't China diverted its trade from other routes to CPEC yet?

Iran + Afg + India (mostly the former) are sabotaging CPEC to divert Chinese investment through Chabahar instead of Gwadar. Pakistan must teach Iran a lesson.

BLA released the latest video of its training, it was geolocated to a camp in Iran.

While we all know about Afghanistan and India, people often overlook the role of Iran in sponsoring terrorism against Pakistani people and Chinese engineers. Iran doesn't just support BLA, it also supports Zainaboun terrorists in KPK.

Other 'Muslim' countries, be it the Afghans, Persians or Arabs are obessed with ethno-nationalist racism as a coping mechanism for their humiliation by the west.

Iran is no exception. Remember it was the Iranians, not Indians, who first launched missiles on Pakistan. Iran wants Pakistan to be another Lebanon, Iraq or Syria under its thumb as a vassal state. The Iranians are very friendly towards India and blocked international resolutions condeming Indian war crimes against Kashmiri civilians.

Pakistan needs to get rid of this cucked mentality, where any munafiq country can label itself as 'muslim' and automatically gain our sympathy. We need to stop cracking down on JuA until Iran does the same with BLA (hint: They won't, unless we force them to.)

We need to first purge Pakistan of Iranian influence before taking regular kinetic action against Iran.

Iran is militarily no challenge for Pakistan, but in the proxy domain Iran is ahead of us because Pakistani leadership is docile and complacent, castrated by their cucked mentality to Iran and their refusal to clamp down on Iranian influence in Pakistan. Only recently did they grow a pair and designate Zainaboun as a terror group, but Parachinar has already bled and hundreds lost their lives.

I understand if clamping down on Afghan influence is difficult owing to ethnic and religious ties, but for gods sake Iranian influence despite the absence of any demographic advantage has been allowed to grow unchecked. Our Shias are very patriotic but their patriotism is being targeted by Iran who is hell bent on waging a sectarian 'cold war' inside Muslim countries (I myself reject sectarianism but condemn Iran's exporting of it).
