Diamer Bhasha Project - 4,500 MW

Pakistan's strategic project "Diamer Bhasha dam" has been under construction since the last quarter of 2019 and is scheduled for completion in 2028.

This multi-purpose dam will be used for water storage, flood mitigation, diverting water for irrigation, and vitally for the generation of cheap energy. Since then, construction activities have been going on around.

The Dam will store 8.1 MAF water and generate 4,500 MW low-cost electricity. WAPDA is constructing 8 projects including Diamer Basha Dam.

These projects will be completed from 2024 to 2028-29 in a phased manner to add 9.7 MAF to water storage and 10,000 MW to power generation capacity.

Under Construction Diamer Basha Dam - 4500MW
Construction work is being carried out on multiple sites, which includes excavation of dam abutments from the top, diversion tunnel, diversion canal, power intake, permanent access bridge, and access roads.

Scheduled for completion in 2029, Diamer Basha Dam will have a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 MAF to irrigate 1.23 million acres of additional land.

It will have an installed power generation capacity of 4,500 MW, and provide 18 billion units of green and clean hydel electricity to the National Grid per annum.
