I am not convinced of any kind of autonomous driving yet. I got to witness first hand lidar in action by sitting in the backseat of a human driven taxi. By the time the car on the side appeared on the display screen, it would have been too late to avoid a collision if it or you wanted to change lane. Seems to me old fashioned visual inspection of the side mirror could afford you a way faster reaction than relying on the lidar to scan the side of the car then display it on the cockpit display.
Technology sometimes works backward.
I have had FSD in my Tesla during a free trial period and it was beyond amazing. Anybody who thinks self driving cars are some SciFi fantasy are in for a rude awakening. Will it drive 100% confidently in a blinding snow storm..no...but will it handle 99% of situations..yes.
The display has nothing to do with the self-driving. It is just taking data snippets to humor passengers (like the flashing red bulbs of supercomputers from yesteryear) and isn't 100% representative of what it's actually thinking.
BTW a company i worked in 1992 had a CM-5 and the blinking pattern was not like this
I tried it a couple of years ago and it was unbelievably good.
We are still at level 2 of self-driving and Tesla is considered Level 2 (partial-self driving) despite being capable enough to self drive fully autonomously. We maybe able to sleep in the car by the time we reach level 4 or 5.

As somebody who has been watching FSD evolve over the years I can happily say we are definitely seeing a light at the end of the tunnel using the AI route in version 12.
Unfortunately (and very sadly) the army of...
