It’s for the host country to decide how it wants to run legal migration. It may have benefits or "negative externalities" as you put it, but nobody held a gun to their head and forced them to issue those visas or to keep issuing them.

Likewise, nobody forced Western countries to include movement of people in their trade deals with India. We can ask for the gold and diamonds and it’s entirely up to them to decide what they’re willing to exchange in return. If they think the costs outweigh the benefits, they can simply say no.

If AI is going to devastate outsourced jobs in India, white collar workers across the world will be facing the same shitshow. And with our labour still cheaper, the more expensive jobs in the West could well go first. Whatever work remains for humans will still face pressure to keep costs down. Countries debate these things and decide their policies. Yes public sentiment influences policy, milk is white and the sky is blue.

And we’re certainly not going to apologise for using the rules of globalisation the West itself pushed to our advantage. We’ll play the game with the cards we’re dealt.

The west has graduate employment problems, once you get parents who are seeing their kids expensive education not yield employment they will mobilise. It's happened in the USA

The Indians argue they are jobs no one wants to do, yet brag about their brilliance another time, graduates absolutely want jobs in bigger companies, and then they find their way, it's always happened that way

Today's India, groups are being defined as who is legitimately to the land or not, never mind if you have been there forever, Invaders traitor's etc

Abroad they insist a civic belonging is what EVERYONE should have

The rules of globalization are not fungible with national interest in many cases, even with legal routes there are plenty of illegals from India, leveraging legal routes
