So I heard that Murad AESA's are coming with long range Turkish BVR missiles for our 50+ older MLU F-16's starting in the next year or so! Anyone else heard it?

seriously, those 50+ Fsola model A/B are very old, not worth investing in them ...

I agree. They aren't worth upgrading through the US. But through Turkey, the upgrades are cheaper. They still have about 15 years we can squeeze out of them.

Turkish Murad plus Gokbora / Gokhan, BVR missiles, etc, will give them near PL-15 capability. The US will never give us the latest AMRAAMs so through US upgrades these jets will still stay as secondary air defense units with older AMRAAM models. With Turkish weapons they can become front line air defense units again due to long ranges we'll get with Turkish BVR missiles exceeding AMRAAM capability.

On older F-16 MLU's, I recently read a report and had a discussion with a couple of people. With all required upgrades applied, another 10-15 years, depending on how much we use them.

The V upgrades include the SLEP to enhance airframe/structures beyond 12000hr limit. So i don't see what's the issue in keeping F-16s relevant for another 10-15 years even?

If you get grant aid or free then worth it surely
Combat proven western fighter

If it is costing you 40 million each for upgrades and new weapons

Then opportunity cost kicks in
Do you use the 40 million per plane on New block 3 thunders
Or J10c

When you budget is so important and challenging this is vital decision

Let's assume J35 id different project not impacted at all on this decision

You have Saudi money for decades this not new

I think more likely is will USA no actively courting engaging Pakistan will they do the upgrades under a grant aid programme..I see this as possiblity and good option

This in turn means if the Saudi do release more funds in future for joint defense of Saudi you can use that for New air defense systems more J10c immediately and J35 post 2030

If you don't get USA grant aid I think you may forsake this to get more Chinese fighters only
