As people said, Iran has nobody but themselves to blame.

We must've easily defeated New Zealand. Our team knew about the conditions of this world cup and the unfair treatment we were going to go through from the beginning.
They should've prepared better for the New Zealand match and not allowed the environment to get under their skin or affect their first performance. If we had won that match, one point against Belgium or Egypt would've been enough.

Also, our team played cowardly. We could've defeated both Belgium and Egypt when they played with 10 players against us. Again, Egypt was great in offense but had multiple problems in defense, and our coach chose to let them control the match instead of pressing them to win the match.

Unfortunately, this disastrous result for Iran will change nothing. Ghalenoyi will remain Iran's coach, even though he doesn't deserve it. More of the same will happen in the future with this poor coaching.

Iranians should be proud of their team, qualifying/playing in the worldcup is itself a great achievement, Iran also had a difficult group, Belgium, Egypt are strong teams, if only like you mentioned Iran took 3 points from New Zealand, this was the main letdown. Overall i think Iran is a good side.

Iran has consistently been the 1st/2nd team in Asia in FIFA rankings since 2012. We have always been in top 5 in Asia in the last 50-60 years. We have advanced to the world cup 7 times already, 4 consecutive times. Going to the world cup is no longer an achievement for our team. Do you expect one of the best teams in Asia not to qualify for the world cup when Asia has had 9 spots this year? Seriously?

Going to the world cup was considered an achievement when Asia had only 2 spots in 1998, not now. When Iran qualified for the world cup in 1978 before the Islamic revolution happened, Asia had only one spot and World Cup was played with 16 teams. So, Iran was roughly one of the best 16 teams in the world at the time. Now the world cup has 48 teams and 9 Asian teams qualified this year. Even teams like Iraq, Uzbekistan and Jordan qualified lol And you think qualifying among these teams is an achievement for Iran? lol

Our team has performed extremely poorly in the last 2 world cups due to mismanagement and poor coaching. In 6 matches in the last 2 world cups, only our match against Wales was good football.

Of our current squad, a lot of players have played in Europe during their careers, but that was a different period when Carlos Queiroz facilitated the transfer of our players, which helped us have this generation of footballers.

Getting into European teams is highly dependent on having the right links and good agents. Queiroz was a turning point for our football in that regard. When he became the coach, at some point we had a lot of players playing in top-tier leagues in Spain, England, Portugal, Italy, etc.

I would love to see some Iranian players in the top 3 teams in Egypt , whether it's ahly or zamalek or pyramids , they can later easily move to europe , many Egyptian or african or arab players moved to top european clubs through the egyptian league like arsenal or liverpool or barcelona etc .. the distance and the good quality of the league plays a part ( hence, we don't pay much since we aren't that rich but the chance to move to europe is high)
