I think there is a bit of history here. Mbappé has previously said that South American teams are not as good or tactically astute as European teams. Comments like that are taken as insults in Latin America, and the media use them to fire the players up. On the other hand, you had Chilavert (the former Paraguayan goalkeeping legend) saying that they were going to play against an African team (France) today, etc.

So there was already some beef before the game, and it showed on the pitch today.

Latin American teams are also prone to playing dirty if needed.

It could also have been part of the tactics to provoke the French players and make them lose their heads.

Not my impression that they are racists. Most Latinos are a mixture of local native Americans (originally from Siberia - hence the Asian look of many of them), Spaniards/Portuguese/Southern Europeans mostly, Africans, Arabs etc. It has not been my impression that they are racist in general at all on an individual basis.

I mean there are more people of African descent in Latin America outside of Africa (Sub-Saharan Africa) than anywhere else.

During my student days, I travelled a bit across Latin America and never experienced any type of racism at all. I blended in without any trouble whatsoever.

It is not very clever to generalize a region home to 700 million people. Latino is a blanket description anyway. You have 25 million Black-Brazilians alone who are Latinos as well. You have approximately 25-30 million Latinos of Arab origin. Most Latinos, as I wrote, are Mestizos, meaning a mixture of native tribes (originally from Siberia hence the Asian look), Southern Europeans (and by default Arab ancestry as well due to mostly Spaniard and Portuguese European ancestry) and Africans. Later came significant Arab migrations and others as well.

They were very lucky though. France should have scored far earlier and Paraguay should have had at least 1 or 2 sending offs.

Solely defending in a low block is not a very clever tactic against a team with so much offensive firepower as the French one that can kill you (score a goal) any given moment through individual brilliance.
