One thing I have observed in the larger Muslim world is this pattern

Islamists freely abuse other religions and their practices. Yet when the other side responds by criticising Islam, Muslims take strong offence. This dynamic often escalates into these kind of incidents we see.

To me it looks like an inferiority complex masked buy a defence of superiority. The moment you feel the constant need to prove that Islam is superior and that Muslims are superior, you have already accepted a position of inferiority. Superiority is not something gained by aggressively trying to prove it.
