They have absolutely zilch idea on how to deal with this sector.
No1 priority should be to fix/upgrade the distribution system. Line losses are over 20% . So to cover the line losses and line theft through kunda system they keep raising the tariff on the consumers. ...
The Government has recovered Rs 60 billion this fiscal year so far. More needs to be done.

Pakistani onion exports surge amid Indian ban

In recent months, Pakistan has experienced a significant increase in onion exports, a development attributed to an export ban by India. India, a leading global onion exporter, halted its onion exports due to a reduction in domestic production, creating a void in the international market that Pakistan capitalized on.

Between December and March, Pakistan exported over 220,000 tons of onions, surpassing its typical annual export figures. The All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association (PFVA) highlighted the strategic response to India's ban as a key factor in this export boost, leading to over $200 million in revenue. Despite eventual restrictions imposed by the Pakistani government to stabilize domestic prices, ongoing exports are projected to generate an additional $50 million by the fiscal year's end in June.

This export achievement comes at a time when Pakistan's economy faces significant challenges, with the export revenue contributing to the recovery of the country's foreign exchange reserves. However, the surge in exports has also led to a temporary domestic shortage and price increase of onions in Pakistan.

Mango crop challenges in Sindh, Pakistan

In Sindh, Pakistan, mango growers face a dilemma with the early harvesting of the Sindhri variety, primarily for markets in Iran and the Middle East, leading to a decrease in both local and international prices and overall export volumes. Despite the pest impact on the crop, the size of this year's mango has been reported as satisfactory. Early harvesting has started in the lower parts of Mirpurkhas district, with some growers picking mangoes as early as late April. The practice of exporting unripe mangoes has been criticized for negatively affecting consumer perceptions and market prices. Ghulam Sarwar Abro, a Global GAP certified producer, processes mangoes for export in his hot water treatment plant in Thatta, emphasizing the importance of exporting ripe fruit to maintain market stability and prices.

Meanwhile, in Nuzvid, India, mango cultivators are experiencing financial difficulties due to adverse weather conditions leading to crop damage and reduced market prices. The situation has prompted calls for government intervention to support the affected farmers.
