H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

This will address the issue of abuse of the H1b visa to layoff Americans and bring in cheaper foreign workers, which has meant Indians for the last 30 years.

But it will also negatively affect everyone else, including Pakistanis. The Indian outsourcers ruined it for everyone.

True, bad news for like 1500-2000 Pakistanis.

American universities graduate thousands of IT graduates a year but the American companies prefer low paying Indian programmers. I read some where that they are going to impose $50,000 HIB visa every year. Looks like the hawks on immigration and work visas want aggressive policy.

FInally these Indian scammers are getting taste of their own fake medicine. :LOL:

@SoulSpokesman

That’s all I’ve scraped online for the moment.

This will stop brain drain. India will retain talent. India will develop new technologies in India for India!!!
On a serious note, this isn’t good news. A lot of my H1B friends are providing for their families back in India. The selfishness of a few, who thought manipulating the system was okay, is about to hurt countless talented and genuine people.

@ihussain

Yeah. Give us a few hours, while we tank up.

We know the talking points. The PGurus guy; Mr Iyer, (who has retired Indian generals on his YouTube channel, so probably reflects some level of Indian grand strategy mindset) Says America will be hurt by the loss of the best foreign talent.

perhaps for a while, but probably not for more than a few years, especially as we are in a down market for tech jobs. As the market recovers and students know they don’t have to compete with as many foreign workers, more young Americans will go into computer science and domestic talent and ingenuity will probably give rise to new tech innovations. They may it code as well at first but will pick up and fill the gaps with AI if needed.

Furthermore, the blowback for Modi, and his foreign policy, for many at the top of Indian industries, would force politically unpalatable concessions. India will have a tough time waiting out the next 3+ years if things continue like this. The unpredictability will weigh heavy on the prospects of Indians while they are trying to maximize the utility of their demographic dividend.

It will get rid of low-skilled Indian engineers in various shady consultancies

One way out would be that there would be less H1Bs and more L1s. Which means IND IT companies will have limited downside, but IT professionals will suffer. Plus, there will be more offshoring. A third strategy would be that H1B user companies could set up centres in Canada and Mexico and get HIBs there.

Regards

This will make it easier for American companies to hire the top talent that would otherwise be stuck in the visa lottery loop, but taxing American companies is generally not a good idea.

I would have preferred increasing the wage floor to something like 250K or 500k instead of a 100K/year/employee tax to be paid to the government , but the Trump administration seems to want to squeeze American companies for every dime. Companies with deep coffers would not have a problem with this, but early stage start-ups will be deeply affected. More start-ups will move to Canada, UK, Europe, Israel, China and India.

Many Indians in the US are actually Modi/BJP/Hindutva supporters and voted for Trump. These guys arrived via H1b.
I suspect their kids cannot get a job competing with fresh off the boat immigrants

It seems like you’re forgetting something.

Ohio Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno is introducing legislation aimed at penalizing companies who outsource jobs and operations overseas while at the same time providing financial support to avenues that create American jobs.

The bill, introduced on Friday and known as the "Halting International Relocation of Employment Act" or "HIRE Act," creates a 25% tax on "outsourcing payments" which are defined as any money paid by a U.S. company or taxpayer to a foreign person whose work benefits U.S. consumers.
