H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

@A1Kaid

This will devastate India’s annual remittance.

Don't get too excited. It seems the fee is only for new H1Bs. It means that remittances won't grow- not that it would come down.

Regards

It will come down. People will leave the USA for any number of personal and professional reasons, and when they do that, they wont be backfilled ...

What about all of the other executive orders?

Are corporates even lobbying against this as of now?
Which others EOs are you referring to ?

The administration has already walked back from applying this on existing visaholders because they knew they would lose in court. Corporates don't even need to lobby because the legal case the administration has is so weak. As I said earlier, this was performative political theatre for the MAGA base. They had their moment of fun and don't really have the attention span to follow up on the developments.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but we didn't even have to wait till next week. The administration has already walked back from applying this for existing H1B visa holders.

What exactly has been reversed?

If it was performative, it would not glean any attention or panic

If it was to be reversed, how long would it take?

They will need approval from their employer after a few years

It is not going to affect anyone who holds a visa at present, only those who will get a visa in future. Even that will probably be struck down in court.

So it's $100,000 for H1B visas bloody hell.......Many said he wouldn't do a number far lower.
Trump is going all out on foreign workers.

The president announced the new fee on Friday, prompting some major US tech firms to advise visa holders to either remain in the country or return there quickly.
India accounts for almost three-quarters of approved beneficiaries of H-1B visas, while China makes up a much smaller proportion, almost 12%, according to government data.

India’s leading trade body Nasscom said the $100,000 charge could disrupt the global operations of Indian technology services companies that deploy skilled professionals to the US.

The industry body said the one-day deadline for the new policy created “considerable uncertainty for businesses, professionals, and students across the world.”

Putting aside your aspiration that this will get reversed, and assuming it remains in force..... Won't existing visa holders be at risk of being let go?

You see the whole thrust is to make the Indian offshoring model expired, just listen to the comments at the signing

Actually, this might not be that terrible

If that's the case, it's not necessarily good news for Indians who want this

The people who were lobbying or pushing hard will be incentivized to keep on trying

Also trump has further leverage to tighten the screws.

The prolonging of this debate will surely make people to people interactions more tense

I don't know so much about that other than a number of lower skilled, manual labor jobs will go away. The automation techs will be expanding their skill sets to perform routine maintenance and any repairs that can be done outside of manufacturer-required technicians.

Robots will replace custodial staff for a number of things. We're even looking into autonomous forklifts for loading / unloading trucks. Already have robotic induction arms feeding packages into the sort system. More to come there.
Sadly i don't see this happening in Canada.......i would LOVE to see this, to replace incompetent lazy workers who waste their 8hr shifts doing EFF ALL.
Can't wait to see all this being rolled out........bring it on! its going to be fun seeing incompetent people who do only meetings all day getting 200k paid......to be laid off. No sympathy.
