Can someone please tell me about the h1b visas and why the fees has been increased to 100k...and how it would effect a student say applying for usmle in future etc

You seem to live on loopholes, and in the hope that American companies will bend over backwards to find and exploit those loopholes.

That is not going to be the case.

The concept of H1B has become toxic in itself, and that wasn't enough to stop the inflow, but now you have a large financial barrier that makes the arbitrage model no longer viable. American companies will now start the process of winding down their H1B pipe lines and investing more in university graduates on training them. The way that this change has been "structured", is specifically to allow American companies the "time" to do this properly without costing American companies to much or hurting them too much. At the presentation of the change, they did say that "they had been speaking with American companies on the best way to do this". This has been structured to give the administration of what they want, ie "optics" but also such that American companies can manage the process itself.

Sure, an even better coping mechanism. By that logic, all tariffs should also be removed to allow American companies that import goods to manage the process themselves. Maybe that is on the cards next.

Looks like you missed the memo. It has already been publicly reported that this fee would not be applicable for visa renewals for those who already have the visas.

Just wait a few days. Even the fee on new visas will be thrown out by the courts.

I think the H1B tamasha is all about MAGA politics and I agree that Trump would absolutely throw anyone under the bus. Just look at how he treated his own NSA from last time John Bolton or even his VP Mike Pence.

If any Indians think he is or ever was their best friend, they are just stupid. Same for Pakistanis. He is completely transactional. He has abandoned Imran Khan and will also toss the Field Marshal aside if it suits him.

Not true. Visa is needed only to enter the country. Stay in the US is based on work authorisation ( I -797). For example, if someone loses their job and I-797 is revoked, they have to leave the US within 60 days even if the visa is valid for 3 years. Similarly, you can continue to stay on even after the visa expiry date if your work authorisation is extended, but the visa will have to be stamped with the new date if you leave the country in order to be able to re-enter.

I guess what he said is technically true , but you can stay in the US legally after your visa expiry date.

ICE is arresting and expelling all decent voices, like pro-Palestinians, too. So, it will not remain to H1-B etc, but all communities are at risk of being banned, suppressed, etc for Trump to make his right-wing supporters happy.

Seriously dude, I don't know what world you live in. You are talking as if Indians, Latinos, Mexicans, Arabs, are some monolith entity. They are all individual human beings. Some are proud, some are humble. Some are smart, some are stupid. You can't just stereotype them with some character traits.
