HAL LCA Tejas: Updates, News & Discussions

Wow ... the late delivery of a second engine is celebrated with a NEWS FLASH as if India's 6th generation fighter prototype surprisingly had its maiden flight! :ROFLMAO:
At this level, we need a new "sigh" emoji here, laughing emoji is not enough, just sigh, knowing these are the people and country that boast about their greatness and dissing/mocking China.

Even at the rate HAL are promising, and we all know the value of a HAL promise, BEST case scenario is by end of 2027 start of 2028 they may have 1 full MK1A Sqd.....

That is beyond shocking....

No it isn’t. And imagine the frustration with the competent folks on their side - they are also in numbers and maybe a little more than Pakistan but the system is so much worse.

Same "deals" were being "finalised" 5 years ago.

This whole thing is such a bad joke now I am unsure why people still follow it, or even why we have this thread.....

I am not a big fan of manned aircrafts now.

India Must Prioritize Stealth, Drones, and Smart Strategy—Not Legacy Platforms

India should shift its defence focus from fourth-generation fighter jets to next-generation platforms like the AMCA and Ghatak UAV. The future of aerial warfare isn’t in dogfights—it’s in stealth, unmanned capabilities, networked warfare, and precision strikes.

Western powers like the U.S. or Russia continue investing in legacy fighters because they have global military footprints. They need jets that can be deployed across continents. But India’s defence priorities are regional—focused on the subcontinent and immediate neighbors. That calls for a different kind of thinking.

As an Indian poster, I would refrain from posting any celebratory post till HAL has delivered LCA in some numbers.

Till then, it is all, just tall promises, to the extent of lying and misleading everyone by HAL. Engine supply by GE was just one aspect of this saga, where they were gleefully pointing at outsiders. I am pretty sure that, had GE supplied engines in time, HAL would have still delayed, due to other issues that got hidden to their good luck.

To HAL’s misfortune, if GE decides to really ramp up its production and supplies good number of engines at a fast pace, HAL may get caught with their pants down. Their tall promises of capability to produce whatever numbers they are claiming may get exposed as yet another of “those” promises.

Fingers crossed.

They've already made 9 of them even during engine shortage and even flown some with Cat-B engines. Although I am not overoptimistic, I believe HAL can deliver if given large orders, which is why the 97 more should be ordered asap so that GE can also ramp up supplies. Maybe in future order a few more MK1A squadrons before production dries.

The IAF Chief had said - “I know that people in HAL have good intentions and want to do well, but it isn’t materialising into results”.
I echo similar sentiments. HAL is in the business of making aircraft and giving them to captive user in IAF. Till now, they have failed to meet timelines in each and every major project.
They are lucky that IAF has no choice, otherwise they would have gone put of business in a more competitive environment.

India need to go further if you ask me, but anyway that's the least right approach.

By the way, any update - especially images - on the Mk.2 prototype?
