Hangor Class Submarine | Updates & Discussion

YJ 18. Very lethal and should be the choice. But there is not enough official info to be sure of.

We don't know if PN had ordered YJ-18 missiles along with Hangors ( coming as part of package) or planned for later.

For land attack missile, Babur 3 can be used.
I don't think PN will ever reveal the true capabilities of Hangor weapons....maybe at best what missile they are equipped with, but you wont know what or how that missile exactly will work or what type.

More like PL-15 'E' type secrecy. Let the enemy find out if 'E' stands for export version or extended version.

You can, but its guidance system limits how it can be used and how accurate it can be. Its INS/Beidou with a radar seeker - and no terprom variants exist.

Meanwhile - for Babur-2 you have the ability to say the hardened facility has an airshaft facing east angled at 50 degrees and you need to avoid air defenses coming in by doing 2 dog legs and a S shape maneuver.. and it will go straight through the airshaft.

But babur 3 in current form seems simply too short ranged for nuclear deterrent mission. Btw is there any plam for sub launched harbah?

Wait when did this happen 😍 i was just thinking about when they were gonna arrive. I am so hyped, only thing that could be better than this is yj-18 confirmation

Why did the ceremony take place in China? This doesn't make any sense until and unless this is not the first one but the third one, and will now go for sea trials. And the first one had to be inducted.

Pns babur and khaibar were commissioned in turkey as well before coming to Pakistan

Rawalpindi, 30 April, 2026;

Commissioning ceremony of 1st HANGOR Class Submarine, PNS/M HANGOR was held at Sanya, China. President Asif Ali Zardari graced the occasion as Chief Guest; Admiral Naveed Ashraf, NI, NI (M), T Bt, Chief of the Naval Staff, was also present at the ceremony.

President Zardari described the commissioning of

HANGOR as a historic milestone in Pakistan Navy's modernization, affirming Pakistan's resolve to maintain a robust, balanced and credible defence posture. He stated that Pakistan is fully capable of defending its sovereignty, protecting its maritime interests and ensuring the security of its economic lifelines.

Naval Chief highlighted that disruptions at critical maritime choke points increasingly threaten global trade and energy security, and maintaining a stable, rule-based maritime order demands technologically advanced naval forces. He stated that HANGOR Class Submarines - armed with state-of-the-art weapons, advanced sensors and Air Independent Propulsion - will be key in preserving maritime order and stability in the region. These submarines will play a pivotal role in deterring aggression and ensuring security of vital Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs) across the Arabian Sea and the wider Indian Ocean region
Naval Chief reiterated that the name HANGOR holds a significant place in our national history. In 1971, earlier HANGOR became the first submarine since World War Il to sink a warship. PNS/M HANGOR will carry this illustrious legacy forward as this is an important milestone for Pakistan Navy that will bolster our maritime defence and modernize our fleet with cutting-edge technology.

The commissioning of 1st HANGOR Class Submarine marks another chapter in the time-tested and enriching friendship between Pakistan and China. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from Pakistan Navy and PLA (Navy).

The Prime Minister of Pakistan and COAS & CDF have congratulated the entire nation and the Pakistan Navy on achieving this historic milestone.

We really need to double down on subs and aim for nuclear subs with SLBM second strike

At the moment we have SLCM second strike

Subs can defend our waters,
Remain hidden
Hunt enemy ships
Host our second strike

I look at how vulnerable surface ships are in the current Iran conflict and think what our plan is to safeguard our navy

MashAllah, may it serve Pakistan well.

Only issue I have with the ceremony is OpSec - no issue with showing the faces of the crew openly?
