Hangor Class Submarine | Updates & Discussion

A sub's range, operating depth, area of operation, communication frequency, and design of its propellers, are some of the most guarded secrets, any compromise can seriously compromise its survival.

@Ak01 @kimjongun is something like tube launched SMASH viable or would you have to have a vls for that.
Smash is 600mm while torpedo tubes are 533mm. But i am sure if they put their minds to it they could develop a slimmed down version with reduced range. Cruise missiles make more sense for submarines without VLS.

What makes you think all tubes in Hangor class are 533? Have you thought of having 666mm tubes, one or 2? Fruit for a thought ??

the closest thing to what you suggest is this, and its more made for ASW missions, its basically sub launched ASROC.

The issue is, you'd need to shrink the diameter alot. You have fins on the missile too which would eat up space. Lets say you had a 533mm tube, now youd give up some space to the external case, then you'd lose some space to a folding fin assembly, then finally you get the missile, at which point you've lost alot of volume. Basically, i dont think its an efficient idea becuse what you'd be left with would be an ineffective solution anyway probably

Damn i think i remember that thing from cold waters. Still a lot of intresting tech to implement from our subs but would china have something to this type of specialized weapons like super cavitating torpedoes or would that stuff mostly still be russian expertise? Intresting to think about.
