Yup, I did a tour in Bahrain. Another city that had you blindfolded me prior to arrival, I would have thought I was in San Diego.

I think it was you I mentioned why would I consider going to Riyadh as I lived in PHX at the time.

Have also been to Alaska. In the dead of winter, Anchorage is actually warmer for the most part than Chicago. Go up to Fairbanks and it is totally different.

Yes, that is the beauty of the US in this regard. Its natural diversity is something that is not found in many countries around the world, at least not to the same extent.

I would love to visit British Columbia and the Yukon in Canada—home to some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in North America, in my opinion—as well as neighbouring Alaska for the same reasons. They also offer excellent hunting opportunities if you can obtain a permit as a foreign tourist.

Kodiak Island would also be something else.

It is the same reason I would love to visit Kamchatka (look it up) in Russia.

Now its cool in Maryland after 5 days of continuous extreme weather, we have thunderstorm in Frederick, Maryland 1 hour ago and it is still raining

When we were there, it was just shortly after 4th of July. I was still wearing sunglasses at 2330.

Dammam/Khobar is better than Manama nowadays ( :ROFLMAO: )but yes, there is some resemblance indeed. However, the Phoenix–Riyadh comparison is even more obvious, in my opinion. It is probably the dry summer heat as well and general landscapes. As I wrote I found it surreal how similar it was.

Speaking of the weather, I hear that the humidity in the Deep South during the summer months is absolutely brutal.

Texas, Southern California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, etc. are very much like much of KSA during the summer. It is the humidity combined with the high temperatures that is the real killer. Dry heat is much more tolerable.

Speaking of US weather, another thing I have noticed is that places like NYC can be 25 degrees Celsius one day during the winter and below freezing with snow the next. Crazy stuff.

Speaking of extremes and diversity, many people might not be aware of this, but the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth was measured in Death Valley, California. Not anywhere else. In California alone, the difference between the highest and lowest recorded temperatures is nearly 100 degrees Celcius!
 
Slight rain delay for the fireworks this evening. Tornado sirens going off.

80mph winds and pouring rain for the next hour.

At least it cooled down some.

And the water main broke.

Watching Robert Reed degrade himself made me realize he very likely loved doing these cheesy musicals. He hated doing the Brady Bunch because he considered himself a serious actor but loved this... If you know why, you know. 🌈
