After backing the Taliban for decades, Pakistan is now at war with the very movement it once supported. Pakistan is facing a devastating insurgency along its border with Afghanistan, as the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) wages an increasingly deadly campaign against the Pakistani state. In this video, we'll examine the origins of this conflict, breakdown the military operations, and analyze how the relationship between Islamabad and Kabul has deteriorated into open conflict.

Not the first time we had had to take on the Afghans at this game. We will figure it out like in the past. This insecurity, instability is not a one-way street where only Pakistan is affected. It easily has 3x greater impact on Afghanistan.

Well we've been trying to figure out the Afghan problem for the past 80 years and failing each time.. What makes you think we'll have it figured out this time around?

I think we need non-pakistani commentators especially military ones to help Pakistanis wake up about the situations in these areas.

Some people don't understand the gravity of the situation

Pakistani policymaking for Afghanistan since the khakis took over in 1977 has been a complete disaster. All the khakis have achieved is ruining the peace and stability of KP and Baluchistan. The Taliban are only the latest proof.

Until these khakis are replaced by foreign policy professionals regarding Afghanistan, Pakistan will remain stuck in this quagmire.

Depends on how one looks at it. Figuring out means "managing" it. Being a realist, that is all I expect with Afghanistan.
For as long as the desire to negate Durand Line persists (and by virtue of that, causing destabilization in Pakistan through TTP to that end), all Pakistan can do is manage. There are no serious interlocutors on the other side who can mend fences with Pakistan for good.

when american or european makes a video on Paksitan suddenly it becomes a gospel truth. 2006 to 2016 it was the worst time for us. Pakistan is not going any where

Hindsight is always perfect.

I can guarantee that you would not have managed it any better with the Soviet juggernaut sitting on the Durand Line and the basis for your assertion lies in the copious amounts of rinse and repeat posts that I have seen on this forum criticizing only the military.

The facts are that our Afghanistan policy was handled by our Pakhtun hands in the Government/ISI/Military. Let's not have any doubts about that. The people from that region were the ones who were given the responsibility to craft Pakistan's policy vis-a-vis Afghanistan. What we see today is the long term impact of that. We burned our bridges with all other Afghan denominations (Tajiks, Hazaras were given the boot because our Pakhtun planners did not trust them sufficiently enough) just to preserve the influence with the Pakhtun denomination there. That denomination became the recruiting ground for the Taliban, bolstered by hundreds of madrassas all over our Pakhtun belt.
