South Africa has accused Israel of violating the Genocide Convention, and is seeking interim measures as a matter of urgency to end the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

The ICJ is today giving judgment on the interim measures sought by South Africa. ICJ decisions are legally binding.

So far, the ICJ has indicated that they do have jurisdiction to hear the case and rejected Israel's pleas to the contrary.

South Africa's claims of Israeli genocide are "plausible".

Court orders Israel take all measures to prevent genocide

The ICJ orders Israel to take all measures within its power to prevent genocide.

It says Israel must ensure its forces do not commit genocide.
That is the funniest statement ever read ... asking murderer to protect the prey ....

Thanks for opening this thread. Just seen the ruling. Will need to digest what this means relative to South Africas request was, but it does seem the ICJ has broadly voted in favour of South Africa.

15 out of 17 ICJ judges agreed that South Africa's genocide case against Israel is "plausible". This is a very significant majority. One of the two dissenting judges was the ad hoc Israeli judge Barak.

The ICJ confirms that it has jurisdiction to assess the case and will continue to a full merits assessment, leading to a final judgment in 2-3 years.

Until then, the ICJ ordered a range of legally binding interim measures, finding that there was a risk of irreparable damage and thus urgency. These measures include Israel submitting a report to South Africa within one month, detailing the measures they have taken to abide by the (other) interim measures.

The other interim measures include:
- Stop killing members of the group (Palestinians)
- Punish and prevent incitement to genocide by Israeli ministers

The voting record of Barak was as expected, but the Ugandian Judge has some answering to do for sure.

The International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to take all measures within its power to prevent acts of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, a ruling that could have far-reaching consequences though the court has no power to enforce it. The United Nations' top court stopped short of ordering a cease-fire requested by South Africa while it hears the full case accusing Israel of genocide. The U.S. and Israel have dismissed the accusations.

Israel has been given one month to comply with the ICJs ruling of taking all measures to prevent genocide. "All" is a key word here as it seems to imply a ceasefire is neccessary given that any action that hurts the Palestinian people in Gaza further could plausibly be argued to go against the ICJ rulings demand.
