On this day, 30 August 1967, the illustrious No 26 Squadron, famously known as "Black Spiders," was raised at PAF Base Masroor before relocating to Peshawar, marking a significant chapter in Pakistan Air Force history.
Initially equipped with F-86 Sabres and tasked with Operational Training, it became a prestigious cradle for producing top fighter pilots for PAF and allied nations. The Squadron showcased exceptional valour during the 1971 Indo-Pak war under Wing Commander S A Changazi's leadership, downing seven and damaging two enemy aircraft while also destroying several enemy fighters on the ground. The legacy of sacrifice runs deep in the Squadron, with heroes like Squadron Leader M Aslam Chaudhary Shaheed and Flight Lieutenant Fazal Elahi Shaheed laying down their lives in service.
Transitioning through roles from Air Superiority with F6s in 1980 to Tactical Attack with A-5III in 1982, Black Spiders evolved into a premier Multirole Squadron with the induction of JF-17 Thunder.
Renowned for their prowess in national and international operations and exercises, they continue to train young aviators and stand as proud defenders of the northern skies, embodying unmatched dedication and excellence for PAF.
This day commemorates their enduring spirit and monumental contributions to Air Defence and Operational Excellence.
