Chinese growth is expected to steady out, I guess then it will be observing who is growing more meaningfully and smartly in the seven to eight percent GDP growth, how China grew in that period vs India

Perhaps we will benchmark to Pakistan? No? China has indeed overcome pollution but with far higher PCI than India. So why should India worry now when China didn't? Pollution is side effect of growing consumerism and industrialization. We will focus on that when we have lost focus on things like food, education, infra....etc.

So we are even counting periods now? This is weird obsession! There was a time when japan with far fewer people had matched US in GDP. Perhaps we can benchmark to that?

Meaningful is always good. There was this article today on electrification in India and how India is only country in last century to have skipped traditional coal power plants for greener energy. To be fair to China, it is thanks to them that India was able to achieve this feat. Same can be said for Pakistan. So meaningful is always good!

No it's an economics discussion, during China's high growth phase they were also setting up the base to lead and deliver in bleeding edge technologies. This is also reflected in university rankings where China by most measures is right up there. Sorry if I missed any contribution from Bharat viksit and the knowledge economy

Whilst China also being the factory to the world, and whilst delivering first rate infrastructure and visible improvement in living standards.

It stands to reason if India will achieve similar outcomes during its high growth, such as it is. This is economics and growth.

Okay I'm not trolling here, or provoking, Pakistan has these issues as well, if attitudes towards human development were improving, this would be a revolution for South Asia, and I mean attitude.

this is not reliant on technology or favorable trade terms, as gopinath said Indias GDP trajectory is just the math playing out for 1.5 billion people, so you can surpass whoever, whilst having pollution/conditions that makes athletes sick and unwell.

Benchmarks? We don't want it. I understand this thread is part of greater PDF but you and your friends are only reason Pakistan is mentioned here.

About 18 months ago it was meant to be China.

You may change the goal posts as much as you want however that does not mean the world must do the same

How about this goalpost? US is not even 1/4th of China but with PCI which is more than 6 times that of China. So that makes USA 25 times richer for it's small population. Perhaps India should benchmark itself against the real beast? No? We have decided. America it is!
 
India's growth has happened despite Modi rather than because of him. Modi's tenure has been terrible for Small and Medium businesses and resulted in monopolies being created in multiple sectors.
E.g.
1. Cement
2. Ports and airports
3. Telecom
4. Coal imports

At the same time, the incessant attacks on rational thinking individuals and science and will ensure that India's future generation will be devoid of scientific temperament and full of hyper nationalism. Government schools are being shut off in BJP controlled states en masse in order to promote private schools. This again will ensure that the poor remain less educated and therefore unskilled. Remember, poor uneducated individuals are easier to radicalize with Hindutva ideology than educated folks.
With the media firmly in Modi's lap, there remains no check to his corruption and societal decay being brought about by his party and his minions.

We will not accept a China lead Asia, but don't compare us to China because they are much ahead.
