Commercial production of forged railway wheels begins in August 2026 at the ₹2,000 crore Gummidipoondi plant. Initial capacity is 40,000 wheels a year, with room to expand to 2.28 lakh annually.
 
For now, Bharat Forge holds the record with two 16,000-ton forging presses at its Pune plants. But not for long. MM Forgings is importing a 16,500-ton forging press from Russia and once it's commissioned, it'll be the largest forging press in India.
