India Economy Thread

All of a sudden huh? You're the one who challenged me for those numbers. CPI, Debt yada yada yada.
What were you expecting?

You argued numbers don't make sense, they make perfect sense to everyone who knows basic economics.

If your argument is that India's reported real growth is unsustainable or misleading, make that argument and show the mechanism. Inflation, public debt and a trade deficit don't become evidence of that merely by listing them.

I can see, why numbers could tell the different story

just dont have the time for that!

so to avoid, any confusion, Im asking or rather reminding you

why so impulsive on my post!

go enjoy 10% growth rate, news for you, it will be 12 or 13 pct in the next quarter, bec, of oil shortage and demand for the Russian oil!

im not making things up, Im FRM, i know what im saying and can prove it also, just dont have the time!

But WTF is government doing with UPI - and how is economy doing well when there is little to no addition in "high-quality" employment opportunities? I wish government would have done a lot more with repeated mandate but hasn't performed as well as we would have liked

Some things which have been good - infra (road, rail, air), UPI - which they are about to F, some increases in QoL (income improvement) coupled with decreases (pollution - air, water, food)

What is biggest gap - corruption (petty might be in some control but most of it is not), land reforms (ghanta kuch kiya hai), education (no improvement in quality + paper leaks),

Overall - we can continue to push numbers and they are fine/ok but on ground its not the trajectory of progress (slow) I would like to see...

Land, judiciary and babudom and labor. Must have reforms..
Judiciary and babudom are twin pillars of evil.

But government benefits from corruption so...
1) complete Urban infra failure
2) Manufacturing which is labor intensive. is total failure.

Glass half full man - PPP are "subjective" at best e.g., the quality of bread might differ, the services in India are much cheaper than US (20X cheaper) so goes both ways. However, for a lot of bulk commodities - most of which are inputs to manufacturing - PPP is not valid. These bulk commodities form a major part of outlays for an individual and so PPP comparison can/should only be a "directional" measure. GDP/capita or median GDP is one of the best ways to measure QoL

The government and politicians is not innocent either. They are flush with cash and is trying to milk more. This is why BJP is retarded at times, they will look for money where it's unnecessary. Take STT for example. Why is it still there? There is no reason to collect STT, the amount is a paltry sum but they still collect it as if it's their right.

This one is another, they give billions in subsidies but is still looking to collect some 100cr through this MDR, mess it up, end up reversing it.

Then they would do one big cockup towards election cycle and hand it all to Pappu who will empty the treasury in one go.
