I recommend reading the complete post before sharing your wise opinion

Dassault already has a JV in India called
Reliance Dassault Aerospace Limited based out of Nagpur.

It is this company which will manufacture the Rafale in India.

However for Domestic production and TOT , Dassault has requested an order for 100 jets .

While India is willing to commit to a joint 80 aircraft order by IAF and Navy.
with an option clause for another 90 Rafales , if their is delay in Indian AMCA/TEDBF program

We will likely come to a solution, where Dassault which is already choked with orders from the west and middle east could divert some of their UAE aircraft order to be manufactured in India.
I am sorry but why waste time on 20 extra plane. 80 or 100 freaking just get the deal done. If you want and if you don’t close and move on. This Indian habit of bargaining id not good at all places after certain compromises on both sides.

difference between 80 and 100 jets
Equals 4 billion USD

Let Modi come back to power
We will get clarity as to how many aircrafts the IAF will get

NAVY will get 26 , that’s guaranteed
IAF wants 114 Rafales
MOD doesn’t have the budget right now To buy 140 Rafales
hence a figure of 80 jets is being suggested
With navy getting 26 and IAF getting 54 Rafales

But this will also get messed up if Modi doesn't come to power and if India alliance under congress wins.....

I understand that but man a decade delay is also not good.

If Rahul comes to power

You can forget Rafale

He might even screw up India's relationship with France by making baseless accusations about previous Rafale deal

He might even cancel the follow on order of 97 Tejas Mk1a and follow on order for 3 Scorpene subs
Saying that he needs the money to provide subsidy and quotas to his votebank

Exactly he is capable of doing that.....

A lot of blame also rests with the airforce
India budgeted Rs 40000 crore in 2004 for the 126 MRCA ie 9 billion USD at that time.
This was not enough money to buy 126 Rafales even in 2004, let alone in 2016

Rs 40000 crore would have bought 126 Mirage 2009s or 126 Mig29smt or F16 Block 52s in 2005
if lAF had been told that they need to stick to a budget and timelines keeping inflation in mind
Then maybe they would have chosen the Mirage 2009s like they always wanted

And we would be discussing about the Mlu of Mirage 2009s in 2024 with additions like Uttam aesa radars and MICA ER missiles and Meteor Missiles as well as Avionics update

Also note that an upgraded Mirage 2009 even with Aesa radar will not be useful beyond 2040
And we would be thinking about starting Replacing them with Tejas MK2 or God forbid Rafale in 2034
