New Delhi and Moscow share a long, solid history of defence ties, with joint, licenced production of arms and ammunition taking place in India.
The Rosoboronexport arms exporter, part of Russian state-owned defenсe corporation Rostec, has commenced manufacturing of Mango armor-piercing tank rounds in India, the corporation said in a statement on Thursday.
This collaboration is conducted in alignment with India's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan initiatives, with key facilities set up by Rosoboronexport in cooperation with the Indian defence industry.

"Russian-Indian cooperation has reached a new milestone in alignment with the Make In India and Self-Reliant India initiatives. Based on the Indian defence infrastructure, Rosoboronexport has established essential production facilities for the manufacturing of Mango tank rounds. This development enables India to begin the process of technology assimilation and production organisation," the exporter's Director General Alexander Mikheev was quoted as saying by Rostec.
Rosoboronexport's work in India serves as a "striking example of comprehensive industrial partnership". Within this collaborative framework, joint projects involving various types of arms have been cultivated, showcasing an exceptional level of cooperation between companies originating from two distinct countries, as emphasized by the director general.
Meanwhile, the localization of Russian munitions production in India will continue to advance in the future, the head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, said in the same statement.

"Rostec has considerable experience in industrial partnership with friendly states. Many projects include technology transfer and expertise sharing. Such a partnership enables an importing country to develop its own production, which is a competitive advantage for Rostec as a leading defense solutions supplier. We intend to implement several such projects with India," Chemezov said.
These projects include the licensed production of T-90 tanks, Mango shells equipped with armor-piercing sub-caliber projectiles, and other advanced weapon systems.
The 3VBM17 Mango shells feature the 3BM42 fin-stabilized armor-piercing sub-caliber projectile, which effectively targets modern tanks equipped with composite armor.
Chemezov added that in the future, in order to facilitate local production of Mango rounds, the company plans to launch gunpowder manufacturing in India, which is designed to provide combined protection to the vehicles.
Moreover, the Russian company is committed to building up the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces based on India's defense holding.
This is not the first time, India and Russia have teamed up to produce military equipment in the world's largest democratic country. Last year, the two sovereign states inked a pact to manufacture Igla-S man-portable air defence missile systems in India

Do we have any other option?

Now going with any new western tanks will require a huge infrastructure investment.

Anyway - important of tanks are not same as 50 years back.. T90 is a good option for india at the movement. China and Pakistan are not operating any high-tech tanks.

Arjun was failure and need a another project and also collaboration with someone
