India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

Looks like Agriculture products from the US of A will soon be on the shelves in India.

Will you be seeing Kraft cheese sold in Big Bazaar instead of Amul ?

I just LOVE Kraft Cheddar.

Heinze Tomato Ketchup instead of Maggi

Smucker's Jam instead of Kissan ?
( Yummy )

Most of what you listed is already available in Indian supermarkets. No one is replacing Amul or Maggi.
What’s actually being discussed is agricultural commodities maize, soya, DDGS and other inputs for livestock and feed, not FMCG shelf wars.

I’m directly involved in livestock feed milling, and frankly this access is long overdue. Our poultry and shrimp exports depend heavily on reliable, competitively priced feed inputs. I'm hoping this would lead to acceptance of GM crops in India in the longer run

As I have posted earlier, we will allow agri byproduct like DDGS, Sorghum, corn protein etc . But not grains directly, have to wait for info but that's my guess..
Guess? Your State Bank of India has a different take on it.
Some urban "general category " Indian friends of mine think it would be good to hit the "milk vendors" where it hurts because they are hurting under the UGC Equity Regulations Act.

A report by the State Bank of India (SBI) also cautioned that opening India’s dairy sector to US imports could result in an annual loss of Rs 1.03 lakh crore to Indian dairy farmers. The report highlighted that milk prices in India could drop by at least 15 per cent if the sector is opened up, significantly affecting the livelihoods of small dairy farmers due to the heavily subsidised US dairy industry.

Dairy is not opening up

I don't think SPAM and Hormel cans or Boar's Head are available in India and even the few McDonalds, and Wendy's sell "desi" vegetarian versions of their American counterparts.
Don't see Amul, Maggi, or Kissan products in Walmart or Publix grocery stores in the USA. These are available at the Patel grocery stores.

"Being discussed " ? Isn't the trade deal already agreed upon ? What is the source for your information?

I don't know WTF you Indians are crowing about here quoting me. Yes, I did say that India's foreign policy is an abject failure under Modi and that's not just me but also said by multiple Indian analysts over the last 8 months. But, I, along with most Pakistanis here, never said that India's importance will be gone due to the size of its market, among other factors. Quote me if I said something like that? I said what I said and multiple times about the failures of Indian foreign policy leading to geopolitical 'isolation' and I maintain that!

It seems very easy for some to get inflated ego for concluding a mere trade deal which is beneficial to America, too! Reuters today is calling it 'the least bad option' for India.

I guess plight is turning around. I did disagree at that time but it was drowned under the din of celebrations by the majority.
Geopolitical shift that was assumed at that time turned out to be a farce after all.
Trump loves the powerful was the premise. Can we now conclude that 18% tariff being less than 19% proves that Munir isn’t as powerful as declared on 27 Aug?

Lol if we keep digging the last 183 pages, lots of gem and diamonds to be found... I wonder where all those very active posters are
