Trump threatens to ‘substantially’ raise tariffs on Indian goods as it continues to buy Russian oil

President Donald Trump said on Monday that he will “substantially” raise tariffs on India because it’s still buying Russian oil.

“India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits,” the president posted on his social media network, Truth Social. “Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA.”

Regardless of what it is, you guys have to face the music for your arrogant duplicity.

Indian rupee hits record low on Trump tariff threat

The Indian rupee hit its weakest level ever against the dollar on Tuesday after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose more tariffs against New Delhi over its purchase of Russian oil.

India`s reply to Trump shook America!

India's response to Trump's threat shook the entire America! When US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 'more tariffs' on India on Monday, India responded late night by naming America. Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social, "India does not care how many people are being killed in Ukraine by Russia's war machine. Therefore, I am going to increase the tariff on India." In response, India has called Trump's threat 'unfair and irrational'. The Indian Foreign Ministry said that 'America still imports uranium hexafluoride for its nuclear industry, palladium for the electric vehicle industry, fertilizers and chemicals from Russia.'

India slams 'unjustified' action by US, EU over its Russian oil purchases

@Dalit bro,

"To be an enemy of America can be dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal."

Professor Riazul Haq sb too is fond of quoting this aphorism.

@PakFactor

Very lucid analysis, sir, as always.

One small point though. With effective solarisation of Pak industry, the effective energy costs would be much lower.

Regards

Solarisation in Pakistan has its own issues. Government has started putting a heavy levy on households for installing rooftop solar panels.
There is a long story to that too. Poor planning and foresight is the main reason to the extent that this whole soak thing has become Gale kaa Fandaa for Pak government. Here is an analysis by an Indian channel. He is a financial analyst and not a political one.

What happens to the power tarrifs in view of the capacity charges of the massive generation capacities developed under CPEC, if massive solarization happens?

OTOH, strongly calling out US & EU hypocrisy is also labelled as meek response by the ones who wants cheet bhi & pat bhi.

So, you want GoI to sign trade deal just like Pakistan Govt ? leave alone Pakistanis, even PDF members are clueless about the deal.

DT is just using his power and business tactics to put more pressure on India so that he can convince GoI and get better deal out of it.

I am sure that things will be worked out shortly as both nations know that at present world both can't neglect each other and Its all about how you will negotiate, convince other party.

Finally everyone should understand that both parties sitting across the table are there to put their nations interests first rather than for petty politics.

Its understandable that US can't offer even half of France or Russians can offer i.e., ToT for F-35s but GoI will not negotiate less than that. So, compromising solutions might be joint co-operation between private entities rather than Govt to Govt which will eventually roll the business.
