India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

Go ahead and to sign a deal with Trump and keep pledging to him for your anti-China stance.

Trump and his MAGA America is even going to cannibalize their fellow white brothers, and you can insist that they will keep supporting you as a leverage to counter against China.

Here the Chinese Ambassador to India. Ask him to stop too.

Indian General Chauhan responds to Trump 50% tariff rate.

'It's not important that 50 % tarif has been imposed on India by the U.S president. The concerning matter is why it has been imposed. We have grounded our economy and working to remediate.'

Brother, I read the executive order. The tariffs aren't as impactful as they're made out to be, critical sectors are excluded, and at most, you're looking at tariffs on $15-$20 billion of goods, which will be paid by U.S. purchasers upwards of $6 billion at the counter.

This, too, will be a bridge under the water, with nothing for Trump to show after his repeated deadlines in his trade war and his dangling threats to everyone, including Brazil (for political reasons unrelated to trade).

Trump is causing more damage to American retailers, and many have started shutting their doors through downsizing. Now, retailers like Claire's are going into bankruptcy protection.

Talking with tenants in the family business strip mall holdings, many are showing a decrease of 30% in gross sales year-to-date compared to 2023 and 2024. The impact is also concerning because our liquor store tenants are showing the same, which was never the case in the 2008-2009 recession for the latter.

Trump's ill-thought-out Trade War is slowly having a microeconomic impact.

US needs to end the H1B programme and purge Indian politicians from their politics.

They have had their generosity well and truly taken for granted.

Pull the strategic support and treat them like any other country. No more preferential treatment.

US tariffs on India by sector. US-India trade is total 90B, the tariffs impact at least ~$56.7B, it's significant coverage with room for more.

Yes, the full amount—$48 billion — will be due after 21 days, as pharma isn't included. The total tariff hit will be $18 billion. If nothing is agreed upon, it's sitting on the lower end, with 25% of the $8 billion of goods.

I feel India might follow China's example by downsizing its exposure to the U.S. and increasing trade with the EU. These aren't goods that can't be redirected elsewhere. Most economists estimate a 0.2-0.4 percentage point impact on Indian GDP; the $90 billion is just 2 to 3 percentage points of its total GDP. Thus, it's not going to create major macroeconomic tremors.

Do you not agree with the statement as an Indian?
Frankly, I don’t trust Trump.

He comes across as impulsive — driven more by ego and business instincts than by balanced leadership. Right now, his ego is bruised: India didn’t fall in line with his demands, and he couldn’t stop the Ukraine-Russia war.

On top of that, he’s always had issues with trade, pushing the “America First” agenda from the start.

So let’s be honest — these actions and pressure tactics aren’t surprising. This is how he operates: try to bend others, and if they don’t bend, force them.

The best move now? Minimize the damage. Don’t escalate with unnecessary statements. This is temporary — it will pass.

Right now, I support the Indian government’s approach: stay firm, stay calm, and don’t get drawn into drama

So, after asking China to do your crackpot stuff, now you are giving advice to US to do your crackpot stuff.

What a change a single lunch at White House makes eh?

@Fatman17 @Nilgiri I know there is a thread on tarriff but this is a very important Foriagn Policy development and needs separate discussion. THis also explains Mod visit to China and major coordination against Tariff.s

I had heard China had been asking for coordination for several months and now looks like they're getting it.
I don't know how this came about- but there must be a back end deal on this.

India’s sovereignty is non-negotiable': China backs Delhi as Trump threatens tariff hike

India is playing its China card.

Trump needs to take notice.

So Indians when did they started depending on Chinese statements.
That means they accepting that they cannot hold their sovereignty anymore themselves

India really mishandled Trump. Modi should have met Trump on the way back from Canada. He ignored him. And on top your media now has started insulting him :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The Chinese are playing India like a fiddle. This is the same China these Indians were mocking before Sindoor. How the tables have turned!!

Indians don't have a choice.

The more overtures they make to China the weaker they will appear. Indian hegemonic designs over the subcontinent are over.
